I cleaned up another engine that had similar miles on it but had never used the premix, and it literally took me hours to clean all the carbon and crap off the rotors. Needless to say I still use it every fill up.
Same reason here!

This is THE reason to use it...especially if you disassemble/reassemble your own motors.

I've used it for over 2 years now and especially since I now have the Haltech E6k. I've had nothing but good results with it, plus having the small 4oz. containers keeps things clean with no mess. I hate mess!....

I kept a Techron bottle and just fill it up, but I end up wiping the side because a little dribbles down.

I noticed the smoke on cold startup the other day. Big deal.

Don't ask me what I'm doing here, I thought I'd browse. But I do have one question. My friend with an FD let me borrow a bottle to see how I liked it. My car seemed a little more peppy, but not as peppy as when I installed my window decal at a claimed HP gain of 50+. My question is, Can you use this stuff in an N/A, or was it developed more with the FD in mind?

I'll be on this side of the gen specific threads soon, but soon isn't soon enough.

Thanks

I called Pettit racing today

There is no reason to use this on NA engine as there is no Apex seal to lubricate.
(hehee sorry, been wanting to use that one)

I called Pettit and spoke with Cindy. She pointed out the the metering pump only trickles oil through a needle size injector, wich only covers a tiny portion of the Apex seal. If anyone can confirm this, that would be cool. She was with me on the phone talking about it for like 15 min and was very helpful and nice.

I want some. Can you by Protek-R at any regular store like Autozone. Or is it only through Pettit? Anyone in San Diego now where I can get it.

Are you still using the oil metering pump at all? Or just pre-mix?

You guys should do a search on Marvel Mystery Oil. I am running it as a premix at it seems to do just as good of a job as Protek-R. It is a lot cheaper at ~$12 a gallon from pep boys.

If you ever tear down a motor that relies on just the OMP you will be convinced to run premix.

I run MMO 4-6 oz's at fill up. If I ever have to tear down my motor I will post results of its use. I know that there are other threads on MMO on this forum. Tom

I used to use redline two stroke oil for premixing. It helps lubricate the apex seals but remember that if you premix too much you will lower the octane of the gas and also have more smoke come out of your tailpipe. With that said, the stock OMP works fine and you really don't need to premix if you're just driving or even driving hard. Do it if you disable your OMP

I only premix during long drives. It tends to foul the spark plugs during street driving unless you drive it hard everytime which is not smart to do.

I premix with Protek-R. Have since I got my brand-new streetported motor from KDR. Only time will tell how much it helps, but it can't hurt.

I went to a model airplane/hoppy shop and got a plastic refueling bottle. Its semi-transparent plastic, has a fluid measurement in ounces molded in, and has a long, anodized alluminum filler neck (thats crooked at the end just like the nozzle at the filling station.) and a nice cap. Couldn't be easier or more convenient to use, and its easy to add less than a full 4 o.z. bottle since i never fill all the way up.

Well, Pettit charges 49 bucks for a gallon, so I'm leaning towards trying the MMO. Does anyone else have any experience with the stuff?

the Pettit stuff is the same as the Klotz as someone else stated. You can find it at motorcycle shops by the Gallon or go to the website.

as someone else also stated, it lowers the octane rating of gas and can lend to detonation if mixed to heavily. Just make sure you only put what you need.

Protek-R is the exact same thing to Klotz kl305, just repackaged.
I just ordered some Klotz, I'll see what it looks like...

Now that is exactly what I need. I will check that out.

Very interesting that someone noted on page 1 of this thread that the Power FC 'may' do a less than favorable job in monitoring and running the OMP. This might explain why my oil consumption has gone down considerably since switching from the stock ECU to my Power FC. Also, since I recently just replace my plastic OMP lines, it's easy for me to believe that the Apex seals could get less than optimum lubrication from the small orifice in each rotor housing.

Just started using it since my rebuild with 3 mm seals. (yeah yeah I know ...I'll have to see for myself and 3 pro shops said it was a good call ... my rotors were fine for 2mm too and it was completley my idea, they'd already ordered 2mm to replace them)

I've heard its more important with the bigger seals and it seems like a good idea regardless.

Hell, if you're going to own an FD you should get used to paying out the bucks...what's a bucks a month.

Marvel Mystery Oil is way cheaper than the petite stuff and better yet, can be bought locally and cut the shipping costs. MMO is red in color as well. If you are afraid about lowering octane by using these aditives, i suggest adding even a 1/2 gallon of toluene or xylene. It's the main component of octane booster and parts of gasoline. Toluene is rated at 114 octane by the way.

Where would one find this stuff Danny? How about an aprox cost?

I already only fill with 101 race gas. Ya think adding premix would drop back to 97?

I use the proteck r every fillup. I only drive my car on the weekends but I drive the living **** out of it. I have about 6 bottles left from a 20 pack I bought over a year ago. When it runs out I am going to MMO (Marvels Mystery Oil) which you can pick up at walmart...I have looked at both the Proteck and MMO and they both have the same viscosity (from feel only)...to be honest they look identical...So I am saving the pettit bottles and filling them with MMO

Yeah, no joke, this thread was dead

I have used the Protek-R since I started my Pettit engine back in April. I have 3000 Miles on the engine and there is no noticeable difference except for I feel better and it smokes a little more on cold starts. I got some free Protek from Pettit while I was down there so I think I'm going to hit up some MMO for a while ($).

I use to run premix in my gas and the stock omp and i never notice the smoke in cold starts. I use to use the regular premix, i think it was from valvoline. I bought it because kragen use to sell it, i used half a quart with each full tank of gas.
