I purchased mine with 14,000 miles on it many moons ago. It's got close to 40,000 now though. Cars are made to drive!

That's right! IIRC, the guy was in his 40s. He started some sort of medical business which he built up then sold for like 100 million dollars then retired! The FD was for sale because he just bought his wife a new Land Rover and he needed the garage space. I don't know if you ever went to the mansion he lived in, but he had a Porsche Turbo, a Mercedes, a restored Austin Cooper, and a couple of other sweet cars there. He mentioned having a Ferrari too, but sold it because he just didn't like it. The FD was originally listed @ $22.5K in the Auto Trader and also here in the classifieds. It sat for a month or so, then the price was lowered to $20K obo. At this point, I went out and got my loan approved, negotiated a lower price, went to see the car w/ check in hand, fell in love w/ it and drove it home.

I remember asking the guy if anyone else came to look at the car, and he mentioned a younger gentleman, but passed because of something about having a bad knee and needing an operation and not having the money, or not being able to drive, or something like that - I forget exactly because this so long ago. Was this you???

Besides that (valid) point, anyone notice how the threadstarter hasn't posted a single time since the start of the thread?

HA, yeah that was me. You have a VERY good memory, as I had driven from LA to Sac to see the car before going to Stanford to be evaluated for knee surgery. I already had an FD, and I was within a hair's width of buying it, but backed out at the last second since there was too much uncertainty about my situation and didnt want the seller to have to wait (I'm glad that gem of a car went to a good home, as you seem to have only put about 5k miles on it ;-))

Im with you, the car is a gas to drive, and needs lots of gas to drive (been able to choke 16 mpg out of her a couple of times). Dont know how you guys can resist the "sirens song of the 7". I always have time to drive and it definitely aint 55. I searched for a low mileage car, I did all the reliability mods, so I could drive it any time I got the urge.

I have seen 8 other fd's in the past year while driving around the Seattle area. I thought one of these days I might even be able catch a glance of JIMLABS V8X7 since Im in Redmond every day of the week. Seems I am in a minority for fd drivers in the northwest.

Hey you guys with the low mileage undriven cars, I probably will be looking for another one with low mileage in about 5 years.

You'd have to be in my garage for that to happen.

Haha! I got stuck at home all day yesterday because of the snowstorm so I couldn't get to the forum, lol! I'm so happy this thread has collected so many posts...it's great to hear all these stories!

I completely agree with those of who realize these cars are made to be driven. I bought my MB with 5,142 miles on Nov.13 and a few days ago I hit 7,200 miles. That's 2,000 miles in less than 4 months! I hate to see the odometer creep up, but who can resist driving it? It's much healthier for the car to be out there on the road than sitting in the garage like it has been since it's birth.

Better get back to work for the moment...I shall return later!

Could someone explain to me the reason for owning a sportscar and NOT driving it? Other than the fact that half of them are broke..

What.. you think you're taking it to heaven when you die or something?

DRIVE the goddamn thing.

I think it's because some people look at them as:

1) a possible investment (e.g. something that 30 or 40 years from now might be a collectible) and don't want to put a lot of miles on....

2) a precious item that (s)he wants to keep in the best possible condition, regardless of whether it will be worth something some day. i.e. it's NOT just a car!

LOL, since it's up again, I'm about to buy a 94 with 30k miles, afaik, it's been imported long time ago, had to wait in customs and also had its engine replaced with a reman so the owner reckons the car has 30k and engine has 17-20k miles on it. I'm not fully convinced but we'll see

We recently had a customer at IRP with a 1995 black/tan PEP(PEG?) with ~30k miles on the chassis.

That's his driver---- his other FD is a 1993 MB/tan touring with 600 (yes, six hundred) miles on the chassis
