who drives their FD daily?
I had an '79 RX7 as my daily driver for a number of years. Got a whole set of Pirelli snows on it and 50lb + full tank of gas and drive it in the snow - no problem. Drove my '86 GXL daily as well in the snow...
Here is my daily driver:

Gets me to work and the pearl st. mall for a burrito. Otherwise I drive the FD on a regular basis, but try to keep the milage low at 42k!

When I first got my FD, I daily drove it. As mentioned before, snow isn't a big deal as long as you have decent tires and not a lot of hills in your area.
As far as the wear and tear on the car, well, I regret having to drive it that much now. The paint job has had the crap beat out of it, door dings, rock chips, etc... Unfortunately, at the time I didn't have a choice as I couldn't afford a second car. However, as I soon as I could I purchased a beater.
I know people say cars are suppose to be driven. However, when keeping a car that is 10 years old, slapping on a new paint job isn't going to get your money back out of it if you decide to sell it. So doing whatever you can to keep it in good condition is what I would recommend (which would be keeping it out of rain and snow if possible).
Actually I hate driving my FD in the salt/sand but can't seem to justify a 'beater' due to my short commute. I am looking into getting one, though. Need to take the FD out of commission to do some maintenance...

In the end, the beater was saving me money.
I have more fun than you.

They suck in the snow. Very scary.
Daily Driven without question. Bought her to drive and drive her I will. 400 HP @ 16 psi. Makes me smile every day. Stone chips, parking lot dings, cracked clear coat so what? Like I even would think of selling her. Makes her ever so much more of a street sleeper, rice boys and vette owners die when I punch her. Could life get any better. I still keep her clean and washed. The interior is choice except for the usual driver's seat bolster problem.
To the folks that think they are preserving the value of the car by not driving the car you may be deluding yourselves. The only way these cars will ever be worth more than they are right now is if they are put up on blocks and started every two weeks until the day you try to sell it. Even then, unless the car is 100% original (NO mods {sorry not even "reliability mods}, all OEM filters , belts, plugs, wiring etc) then the car has NO collector value. Sorry guys, just the way it is in the collector world.
The trick to driving her in the rain and snow is tires that are meant for the street, not the strip or road course. My Goodrich Comp TAs hold up well and handle adequately well in most situations. If I decide to keep autocrossing and road racing, I will be buying a set of special purpose wheels and tires.
Drive on!!
Drive Fast!!!

Having a beater costs me more in insurance since I only pay $800+ for full coverage. Having it as a second car does me no good since I get every discount you can get from State Farm. Multi-car, multi-line, over 30 yrs old, married, etc...
My problem is finding a beater that I would actually drive. Everytime I think about getting one, I have to think that if I have my choice of driving the FD or this 'potential' other car, which will I get in in the morning and drive. The answer continues that I'd would drive the FD (except in bad weather). About the only thing which might pry me away from my RX is a convertible in the summer...or a truck when I'm working on the house...or a sedan with some real *****. I keep waiting for something to excite me enough to put out the cash (or get a loan) but I never find it. Many intersting cars but not one in particular sticks out for me (not at least which is 'affordable'). I did have a beater for a little while but I'd rather put the extra $$ into fixing the FD...

94 VR AT 43,000 miles Have had this car for three years and drive it daily. Small town (35,000) in southeastern Washington State, only one in town and consistently get asked what it is. Some snow but usually drive the Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 V10 in that weather.
i just realized that havign an FD as a dily driver will bring my insurance to around 3000 a year which is too much, right now its about 2000 a year with teh FC single sided, the FD i woudlnt have signle sided just because if somethign happens to it i woudl want to get paid, where with the FC i can find parts cheaper if somthing does happen.
so i guess i have to kepe two cars if i want to have an FD at all, i am almost 22 but i belive insurance doesnt start goign down untillu are 24.
