Exclamation Where are my flames!?!?!?!?!?!

Dammit, I got my midpipe so I could spit flames....but noooo...I just get a little pop like a firecracker going off inside my muffler...

Where are my flames? Have you seen my flames? I can't find them...where should I look?

Maybe my fuel filter is stealing my flames? Any ideas where they could be?

Oh, woe is me.....

I noticed that your running a M2 ECU. I am running a Petit. My take is that Petit for the sake of no detonation, tunes their computer so that there is a higher level of gas fed for a 1/2 second longer than required.
Hence extra gas is sent out into the exhaust which ignites. I get fairly large flames when I decelerate (foot off the gas). My buddy followed me in plain daylight and he could see them.

How are you doing this?

What RPM's are you at? You should look at night because they are very easy to see. Also have a friend follow you behind sometime. I have a similar setup and this is what I get.

Well, from my knowlodge, the M2 computer is supposed to be tuned fairly rich as well....

Never done it at night with someone behind me...I've tried at night while in neutral and they said it looked like a firecracker in a barrel....

I have yet to change my fuel filter with 42k miles, I thought it might be clogging a little....

When will you see flames(RPM's)? I've taken it to fuel cut before(by accident) but I forgot to look out the sideview mirror....

The picture above is with my M2 ECU

If you still have the original fuel filter that came with the car, go out and change it now! Not doing so can't result in your engine going boom, boom instead of zoom, zoom. I do my best flames shifting between WOT at the higher RPM range and on decal, under 4, or 5k RPM. Just take it someplace dark at night bring here up to 5 or 6k RPM on a hill (going down) or a slight decline and then just let the car do its stuff. In mine you here a pop, pop, bang!

Done...fuel filter on it's way...it's been on my list of things to do, but I've been putting it off because I'm not looking forward to putting it in

Yeah, I get the popping at banging on decel and at high RPM....

Im not shooting flames either my setup is below.... could it be the restricter plates in the midpipe or the fact that the borla exhaust is not 3 inch? i dont even get the firecracker in a barel look, although I do hear the poping noises most of the time.

Technically...no, these aren't street legal setups....I don't know of any states that allows you to take off your cat...that is the main ingreidant in shooting flames IMO. As far as where I live though, they don't do emission testing so it's of no concern to me. I wouldn't think it is damaging the car, it is just excess unburned gas coming out that ignites. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

My car took a little before I saw a flame. I had to up the Fuel Decel Cut on the PFC. I'm not big on it that much because it makes the car pop and smoke more than normal. I turned it up one day driving around, kinda a hilly road, I was downshifting and then BOOM. It sounded like a M-80 type knock off. I kinda laughed because I had an idea of what happened. When me and my friend(behind me) stoped he said he saw a 1 foot flame shoot out.

I used to shoot 3' flames with my XS ECU. If you have a tuned ECU or PFC there is no reason to play with the decel. You just haven't learned how to pop flames yet. Once you figure it out it is easy.

Remember you have to get the car hot too. If there is not enough heat in the exhaust it won't ignite the unused fuel

The restrictor plates and/or Borla XR1 silencer will not prevent you from shooting flames.

I ran both and had flames constantly.

the FD has an anti afterburn valve...which shoots air to match that extra 1/2 second of fuel...if your acv valve is disabled it will usually shoot flames because thats where it gets that air...mine shoots flames

Where is the anti-afterburn valve? Is this also the pipe that feeds air into the main cat? Btw, I do shoot flames. Usually when I get on it hard and wind out 3rd or 4th gears. Then when I let off at like 7k rpm it pops and then shoots a huge flame. I've been told like 3 feet long by my friend who was following me. At night I can usually see the flash of light in my rearview mirror. Also, M2 says not to run a midpipe with their ecu so it might not be rich enough to shoot flames.
