Flames out of tailpipe!!??
I've been told by other drivers when I race em that i shoot flames outta my tailpipes. They think its pretty awsome and that my car is fast as hell. The car is really fast I'm just not so sure this is a good thing. Should my car be shoot flames. Is this bad or good or doesnt it really matter and what would cause it to shoot flames.

From a coolness standpoint, good.
From a "don't look at me, I ain't doin' nuthin', honest officer!" standpoint, it's bad.
It's caused by a rich condition when you shift- throttle closes, less air goes into engine, but excess fuel is injected. No catalytic converter, so it goes all the way out the back and ignites when there is more air.

I can't speak for other na's, but the ones i've driven(with full cats) tend to make this noise shifting at high rpm's.. From what i can gather, this is those flames, but since we have cats there is just a hard burst of hot exhaust, it sounds like a small explosion, like "fooof!" lasts like half a second, then does it every time ya redline it and shift... well, i was messing around with that plunger on the back of the TB that slows down the deacceleration( i forgot its name for the time being) . On my car and my friends, neither where really adjusted far enough in, ie the plunger didn't get pushed in very far by the tab that hits it. I adjusted mine and found that the sound went away, which means that the rich condidtion was probably at least lessoned, and the car also deaccels much smoother now. I set it so that the plunger goes almost all the way in when the throttle is closed.
What do you guys think?

flaming exhaust
I have had a similar experience with my FIAT x-19 that was race preped when the choke was on(back whenI lived in arctic North Dakota)...it posed no problems, and as for the issue of performance, the stociometric air fuel ratio(13.7:1) the computer recommends the engine is set at is for the purposes of a compromise of performance and emissions...for ideal performance a much richer setting is best...some race cars use as rich as 12.5:1. on my car I had duel weber 40 mm carbs and an air fuel guage for tuning it. the shop I got them from(who did SCCA racing and some parts for Formula one recomended the mixture at 12.5:1 when it was at full throttle with the secondaries and accelerator circuit active(max rich). It never caused any problems(except possible some early wear on the exhause) and ran like a bat out of hell. if you watch some night races(like the old GTP class) with turbo cars alot of them throw out flames in the corners(same situation your car is). as long as you are legal(if you have emissions testing) and have no hassle from the local authority...enjoy it and leave it as a reminder not to tailgate you...twice.

yea its not even only when shifting at high rpm's just rev is up to 5 or 6 grand and take your foot of the gas and it will also do them
well it makes the popping noise but not 100% about the flames
i wish it always did the flames when it makes the pop noise but it doesnt always oh well
ps it doesnt mean your car is running rich either it just means u have no cats. it could be running rich also but it might not be.
FLAMES RULE only bad thing is that u have to pollish the carbon on your tips all the time
