Where to get new parts for a build?

ive always built 4 strokers on the side in my garage... and now im bored of that... plus i dont have the car to put it into.

Im looking for a place that i can buy brand new rotors and housings... based on your opinions with business'

Im most likely ordering all the seals from pineapple, along with the springs and such.

im most likely going to use thier templates for a mild streetport too...

keep in mind this is going to be probably a 12 month build for me.. so im not really rushing it too much.

but all i was really wondering is what business' have you guys found to be the best pricewise and partswise when it comes to new builds, i really want to stay away from any used parts.

please dont flame me on this, i have a very decent understanding, as ive help with a few rebuilds... just some basic parts information will be very helpful

oh and im staying with 2mm

thanks in advance

Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda, 888 533 3400. He owns an FD, so you don't need part #s, just describe to him what you need.

rhdjapan will probably be one of the most inexpensive places you can go

i recommend rotary aviation for the seals.... etc. Ray is the man for OEM parts though.

where is malloy mazda located? are they decent on prices? shipping prices? ive heard nothing but good about ray, ive heard he has every part number memorized with just a description of the part.

as for EVERYTHING im going to need, im thinking of using pineapple's heavy duty water seals. anyone had experience with these? ive heard that they are great under high heat. but still, i need experience opinions before i start throwing out cash.

and as for RHDJapan when u say inexpensive what do you mean? do u mean somewhat decent parts, or affordable good built parts?

whats the difference between OEM seals and the aviation seals? and whats the difference between 2 piece and OEM?

I would also say Rhdjapan would have the new major parts cheaper than anyone in the US. You might check with japan2la on this forum as well. For seals and springs I would go with ray/malloy. Pineapple prices their seal kits up dramatically from what I have seen.

what about the heavy duty water seals? i mean since im taking my time and building it from the ground up, dont you think its a good idea to get the heavy duty seals? as of right now im not sure what im really going to be doing with the engine, i might just mildly build it and then sell my pettit engine thats in my car now once it hits around 30k... if my build goes well. So this time next year there might be a mild streetport Pettit blueprint on the market

IN my time working on my own and other people's 7s, I have encountered many aftermarket and "heavy duty" or "race" upgrade parts. Invariably these parts do not fit 100% as advertised, the fit and finish is not as good as stock. You always have to grind a little here, or bend a little there, or the result is not as great as what was once promised. Such has been the case with the RA apex seals and also their "heavy duty" teflon encapsulated water seals.

As for pineapples specific offering, I can't say anyting about it as I havent seen or used them and dont know anyone who has. Blake has said they tested these for several years before using them in their production engines. He claims they havent seen a failure yet. So far this year I have seen 2 bad coolant seal pineapple racing engines for sale in the classified section. I dont know if they were equipped with these super duper Type R coolant seals or not, though.

Do you want to be the guinea pig?

I generally go by the theory that nobody in his back yard, and no small specialty shop with a budget of a few thousand dollars max, is going to out-engineer mazda motor company, who has invested millions of dollars and thousands of man-hours into rotary R&D with test equipment and facilities that individuals and shops can only dream of.

Sure, we can make the occasional improvement versus a factory offering because the factory had to engineer the car for the general public as well as consider safety, driveability and emissions...so of course we have found gains in porting, turbo upgrades, etc. Still, I do not agree that the aftermarket can truly improve upon design fundamentals of the engine internals and offer a product that we as individuals can still afford to buy when it is all said and done.

I am not a purist and I do not believe stock is 100% the way to go, but more and more as I see different setups I do think that stock internals are a better design than 99% of what is out there.

I'd stay away from the Rotary Aviation coolant o-rings and apex seals. The coolant o-rings are a bitch to install and I've heard stories of numerous failures from another builder. I also dont trust their apex seals at all.

Ray at Malloy is in VA, and he usually ships for free. His prices on OEM Mazda parts are some of the best around.

im using pineapple HD water seal kit in my build(185$?). the other seals im staying oem, minus the oil pan gasket. just using RTV for that. if u order from them, ask for the 3 washers for the thermal pellet bypass and instructions.

best source for the pilot bearing puller is pineapple. i got mine from ray and it cost $10 more but no big deal. so bottom line, Pineapples pricing is better even with the shipping cost which is very reasonable. also, it will take about a week for either one to get the tool shipped out.

other than that, get your apex seals and rotor housings from rhdjapan. also the oil control rings, side seals, side seal springs, corner seals, corner seal springs. u'll save a good amount of $$ from them. + they're great guys and always willing to answer questions.

apex seal springs short and long, oil pump, water pump(reman + core exchanged, comes with gasket) from ray are the best prices around. as are pilot bearing, pilot bearing seal, thermal pellet seal, oil control o rings(outer and inner) just about everything else.

i just bought these the past 4-6 weeks so these are the best prices around.

Thats as true as a statement can get. Off the top of my head the only non-mazda internal I would consider in my own car are ceramic apex seals. I have seen too many blown out teflon encapsulated water seals and housings eaten prematurely by aftermarket apex seals to use them myself.

i never thought of it like that... but that is a GREAT point, i mean are you going to trust a company that copied and TRIED to make something better, or are u going to trust the originator of the idea and the platform... that information is very helpful right there... thank you
