PA When battery is connected, brake and interior lights are on constant

Just got done building a 4 year project, and about to get it registered on friday, but i'm having some weird electrical issues.

As soon as i connect the battery terminals, the interior cluster and all interior lights are on. the brake lights are on.

Any idea what in the world would cause this? A short somewhere?

remove the fuses to corresponding sections and see if they shut off . if you take the room / interior fuse out and the brake lights shut off then you may have a short so on

Do you mean the rear tail lights are lit up, or the BRAKE LIGHTS (with 3rd brake light lit) are on? Two different circuits.

If the interior lights and exterior running lights are on, the headlight stalk could be at the first position.

I'll give this a shot. i was thinking maybe there was a ground issue?

I believe only the left side tail light is lit, do not think its brake lights.

Dale, what is the headlight "stalk"? or was that a typo and you meant switch, like maybe its stuck... cause the switch is definitely turned to off. I also currently have the headlight assemblies out of the car.

so when you switch your headlights ON , do both rear tail lights turn on? or just the left?

Also did you do any sort of re wiring on the car?

Interior lights may be the door sensor. I had mine come apart (its just a plastic tube with a spring connected to a sensor) when I took the rear quarter panel off. Just a guess since you could have two problems instead of just the one.

It's only the cluster and a/c panel lights. I thought it might be the interior lights but they are off

Headlight switch makes no difference, both taillights are permanently on.

Is the horn connected?

could be in alarm mode

I can't remember what lights up but the horn and headlights have a party

If that's the case you could try to unlock and lock the doors etc.....

Or you could have a bad cpu #2/black flasher box or something isn't hooked up properly to the flasher box etc....

Horn is not connected, that will effect lighting?

I went through and checked grounds on the chassis harness. The two fronts were not grounded, the rear, nor the passenger under the dash one were properly fastened

What doesn't work:
Tail lights
Markers

What works:
Flashers/4ways
Turn signals
headlights
center brake light

This car has the battery relocated to the rear. Up by the drivers headlight, where the power wire comes up from the rear into the main junction box, i don't see a main ground anywhere around that... is there supposed to be one there, or does the factory battery just ground to chassis. If there is a ground in that area, where does it connect?
