TX What's a good oil temp

I couldn't find anything by searching this subject.

I just installed a PLX multi gauge, and now can read the oil temp (at the drain plug). My question is: now that I can see the temp, what is a good value? What is too high?

Thanks for your help.

No kidding? The first time out it went over 230 just driving around town on a nice day. I have dual oil coolers coming next week. Maybe they'll make a difference. Thanks.

I'd check to make sure your lines (especially the turbo lines) are not coked with sludge from high oil temps as if its getting above 230 just normal driving I can't imagine the temps that it reaches on a spirited drive in the summer when it gets 100+ degrees outside. Whats your oil pressure like?

Are you a stock touring/base model FD with the original cooler?

Something is wrong shouldn't be nearly that hot this time of year even with only one cooler.

Most people check the temp at at oil filter pedestal where it is cooler. The oil there will have just gone through the oil cooler. You are checking it at the hottest spot so the temps are not easily comparable.

I suggest moving it to the pedestal.
My temps can go to 104 C (220 F) if you remain stationary for long.
Ideally having it above water boiling temps will remove moisture from the oil (mine in stop and go traffic)..... but as cool as 85-90 C (185-195 F) when moving fast.

^Bingo.

At the pedestal location post-cooler I've seen as low as 140 F cruising at highway speeds on a cold night, this with R1 dual coolers and properly ducted '99 spec front bumper.
