What your opinion

If you had to choose. What would you rather do with an automatic?

Do a 5-speed swap
or
Build the Tranny and get a nice torque converter and diff.

They will cost me about the same in the end, but the auto **** is less of a pain. just wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

ya, ive thought about the selling thing too, but i have alot of faith and time in this car. Its pretty strong except for the tranny. And i got it pretty cheap.

FYI- I want to use it not as a daily driver, but not as a drag car. I just want low 12's, and have fun on weekends with it. The low 12's are not as big a deal, and im not amazingly in love with 5-speeds over autos, so thats why im not sure which way to go.

I heard the manual swap is such a bitch, you guys have any first hand experience?

It is a bitch to do the swap, but in my opinion, you're not driving if you own an automatic, so I say do the swap.

Exactly. Slushboxes belong in minivans, not FDs. You said you wanted to have fun with the car.....there is an exponential leap in fun factor from auto to manual, in my humble opinion

I have a heavily modded auto FD with a beefed up transmission. If you are planning on ever selling the car, then keep the auto. If you plan on keeping it forever, then do the swap. Consider if you will need to return it to stock, or nearly stock for resale. Either way, once you start big power mods on an auto, it will never be truly "right". Problem is, there are very, very few decent 5 speeds still around, and those are commanding high prices. In retrospect, if I had it to do all over again, I would have done the swap.
