What is your FD worth?

I was just wondering who, on this forum, spent the most time and money on his FD. Just for kicks, about how much money did you guys put into your rx7 as do this day? This includes the car, parts, engines, labor and all that other good stuff. Since I just got mine and will still need to do lots of work on it, my total is around $8000. So who's spending a little too much on here, huh?

I have mine insured for 75,000 at Statefarm through a stated policy.

There are a few of us who love their car so much (stupid) to spend quite a few $$$.

Jim L. is one that comes to mind, that is in the simular boat as I am.

Insured for $75k? Damn. Does this mean if something happens you get that money? Bet your premium is sky high. Of course mine isn't insured yet so I shouldn't be talking.

Yes. If the car is stolen, or "destroyed", I would get that insured value.

My premium is 40 bucks a month.

Bought in Ocotober of 2001 for $14,500, had 52,000 on it and a dented fender along with less then perfect paint. Cost to date in parts and non-regular service: $5,630, (so not including gas, insurance, oil, coolant, registration, licensing, etc.) and its still mostly stock, I need to rebuild the motor, buy a boost controller, fix the body, get a PFC, fuel mods and an intercooler before summer is over, along with tires, trailing arms and toe links. Its going to be an expensive couple of months. Josh

Total amount including purchase price is just under 15k. But I intend to spend at least another 3-4k in mods. Brought her home in 05/03.

I would sell mine if someone offered me 21K, so I guess that is what mine is worth to me.

Red-Rx7,

Can you breifly explain the appraisal process for your car? I mean did you have to have receipts for each and every mod? How did you reach the 75k value and get the ins. co to approve it?

I seriously would like to protect my investment as well.

Oh yeah, bought the car for $25,400 in 1996 and spent 15-20k++ over the years including a rebuild and a bunch of bolt-ons, & stereo, 2 set of wheels and basic and major maintainance costs. Not included is one motor & twins covered by my extended warranty.

Sure.

My auto insurance is with State Farm Insurance Co. They offer "stated" policies on vehicles that are classified as "antiques". This is a mandate that requires the car to be 10 years old.

I provided records indicating the rarity of the vehicle (only 13000 imported, then broke it down by color/model).

I then provided receipts of all various items I have done to the vehicle to show it is a special car. I actually had the chance to have it insured for a lot more than 75k, but chose that number for simple logistical reasons.

My insurance agent then took all my information and gave it to a claim inspector within the State Farm agency. This resulted in an approved appraisal of near 100k, allowing the vehicle to have the stated insurance of 75k.

There are stipulations too, such as:
- Number of miles per year
- Alternative transportation methods (ie not daily driver)

Anyhow, here is the car:

As far as the premium goes, it is actually $227.00 per 6 months. Which breaks down to be 37.83 per month.

I bought mine a little over a year ago for $12,900. Since then, I have spent over $8,000 for stupid repairs and dumb little ****. The car doesnt look any different than it did when I bought it except for the paint is getting worse every day. The guy I bought the FD from had it a little worse than I did. He brought it up from Arizona and after about two weeks, the motor blew. Since that time (about two years ago), it has had about 20,000 put into it for parts labor and other Mazda Dealer Bullshit.

The damn thing doesnt run so to answer the question of how much it is worth, probably not much more than the other fancy decorations (pink flamingos) I have in the yard.
