What will happen?

The exhaust gremlin will come out, slap you in the face, then shake his finger at you "No! Bad owner.....baaad owner!" The only way to get rid of him is put in "up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right, am, fm, power, on your bose system.

I'd be more worried about the heat it's creating under you car. The egt of most RX7's is way hight esp right after the cat. I'd be carfull you might light something on fire under you car.

It's just not a good idea. If you don't have money to put on an aftermarket system, just leave it be and save up.

I've got the full 3" exhaust (you know, dp, mp, and cat-back) and I still manage to **** everyone in the neighborhood off. Even at idle.

Odd. I have full turbo back 3" w/ resonated mp (Magnaflo straight-through design) and a Magnaflow muffler. Its relatively quiet, even when I rev it up, and doesnt have that retarded-japanese-omg-l33t-high-flow-jdm sound to it. Its actually relatively deep.

Depends on the definition of 'stock'. My car has a completely stock exhaust system to the aft end of the main cat. From that point back it is a 2 1/2" pipe with a stainless tip. No muffler, no resonator, nothin'. Still less than 95 db at WOT on an autocross course. Sounds great at idle - nice burble sound - is just fine on the road and around the neighborhood as long as you don't go nuts.

As a bonus, I have participated in dozens of autocrosses and at every one someone comes up to me after one of my runs and says "man your car sounds awsome!"

Don't take your muffler off. It will cook your undercoating (or worse), reduce your neighbors' tolerance for any other stupid thing you might do by 82%, and make you look like a redneck.

If you really want a cheap replacement, pay a muffler shop to make you a pipe with no muffler. And then add a Magnaflow muffler if it is louder than you want it to be.

??? I haven't had a muffler for over four years and there is absolutely no sign of any damage under the car. I would expect that from the cat back it is actually cooler based on no resistance, and it's also lighter.

If it is stock (and most aren't anymore) then there are two turbos, a precat and a main cat that the exhaust must travel thru. You can't get much cheaper than a pipe and trust me, it is much quieter than most cars I've heard with modified exhausts and expensive mufflers.
