What should I expect to pay?

Just wondering what the price range would be for a 94 RX7 5-speed w/ around 70k mi. It has the R2 package w/ sunroof bose and whatnot. The dealership is asking like $19.5 which I thought was awful steep. Lets here some opinions.

thats way too much. if the motor has been just replaced then the car should be worth around 16k if its an r2. I dont think its an r2, becuase i dont think r1/r2s came with sunroofs or bose. If the motor hasnt been recently replaced then its worth a bit less then 16k. It all depends on how bad you want the car.

I have about $21,000, see signature. This includes shipping to have the work done on the car as well, that was $700.

Without question, I couldn't sell it for $21,000. With some luck it might fetch $18K.

I have a LOT of Mods, all completed in the last 15,000 miles. The car was also in VERY above average condition inside and out. The black leather seats still have a nice "shine" to them and the bolster wear is minimal.

I don't think you can get into one of these cars for < $15,000. If you do, go ahead and plan for about $3-5K in upgrades. You'll either get the bug and want more, or the car will REQUIRE work withing year 1 of ownership.

fastcarfreak is correct. R1/R2 models did NOT come with sun/moon roofs.

However '95 R2's are quite rare. If you do find one for sale, unless it's wrecked, it will be more expensive than your run-of-the-mill FD for that reason.

It's a dealer, usually they list high and you can talk them down to about, seventeen K at least.

Hello-

You're in Oregon... the car is a '94 for $19,500... this is awfully coincidental...

By any chance are you looking at the '94 Montego Blue 5-speed in a dealership in Walnut Creek, CA for $19,500? If so, PM/e-mail me very soon!

I test drove that car back in December... I was SCARED. It has some big problems with it. After the test drive, I walked away without even making an offer... the guy wasn't too happy I didn't even try and haggle. Of course, every problem is fixable in theory, but if that much is wrong to start with and they say "oh, it's in perfect condition," then who knows what else is wrong that I haven't even seen!

If this is the correct car, PM me or e-mail me at shadlaws@stanford.edu and I can give you the details. *Maybe* they've fixed it since then, or maybe not. I don't know. Either way, if this is the car, you should know :-).

Take care,
Shad

Thanks for all the advice, I'm pretty new to the RX7 world and am trying to learn about them so I can make a good purchase when I am ready to buy. I curently am getting rid of my 97 f-body (Firebird Firehawk) and was looking at getting 98 and up Camaro SS or WS6 but have taken a liking to the RX7's. Is there a site that I could go to that would educate me about some of the basics on 3rd gen RX7's such as options, things to look for,etc....?

BTW, for reference, I picked up a near mint '94 w/ 23K original miles last year for $19K from a private party. The dealer is going to charge a little more because of their overhead but IMO, their asking price is too high. And having a sunroof and BOSE (BLOSE ) means that it's a Touring model, not an R2.
