My stock ignitiion system started having break-up issues at around 15psi, and around 14psi if I was running race gas. Adding an HKS Twin-Power cleared it up. It seemed that my coils were a little weaker than your average, low mileage coils.

ignition amp can make a stock car run better...is it worth the money, who knows.

I had break up at 14psi with a single...added a simple MSD 6A and run up to 19psi with meth/water injection.

20 psi on completely stock ignition and ngk 10.5 race plugs, no break up. Alot of it is in the tuning and having good coils and wires. Most people run these cars way too rich and are afraid to use enough timing.

What is breakup? I experienced something today that I haven't experienced befofe. I was at full boost at 15+ psi on Efini Twins in 4th gear. I started getting a fluttering boost pressure but no lean condition. I tried it again and same thing. I'm good at lower gears but in 4th and 5th I'm seeing this condition and I'm hearing this sound like somebody f**king on a squeaky bed when it does it. I'm pretty sure that my turbos are maxed out.

Is that breakup or something else?

Jeremy

You upgrade the ignition system when you experience break-up, it's that simple. No break-up, no wallet emptying required.

Is there a way to evaluale your ignition system? My concern is I am doing a single conversion with all the good stuff. When I'm done I take it to a tuner. If my coils or amp are not up to snuff, did I waste a tuning session, time/money, etc.?

^That is break-up. Doesn't sound so much like fuel cut.

It's not fuel cut. I've got a PFC that was just tuned by Steve Kan, a Walbro Fuel Pump, Aeromotive FPR, 850 primaries and 1600 secondaries. I've also go a narrowband AF meter which is reading high stoic almost rich when it happens. So that is breakup? It doesn't happen at 12 psi, only 15+ psi. I thought maybe my turbos were doing it but I've had the wastegate ported so that doesn't make sense either.

Would a twin power resolve my issues or do I need to go more drastic?

Breakup is when you have more fuel than your ignition can properly ignite. You might just need new plugs and wires, but a twin power would also do the trick.

If it's tuned by Steve, I'd imagine your AFRs are good and you're not too rich, so you just need to get your ignition up to speed.

I've got new plugs and wires, they're 9's all the way around and the wires are only a week old.

I'll pick up a twin power.

One more question... why does it make that squeaking sound? It really sounds like somebody upstairs on a squeaky bed getting their freak on.

Thanks,
Jeremy
