What the highest compression possible

so i went to check out an fd today i gues the dealership is having it check out since they got it at an auction the interior and outside look pretty good a few dings and the interior smell i dunno old i guess. so i asked the mechanic what did the compression test come out too he said 175% and this is on a stock fd i dunno the mileage though it said mileage exempt on the ad cuz they dont know the true mileage. when i heard that sounded like bs wat do u guys think? im gonna test drive it on weds possibly the mechanic should be done checking it out.

What does 175% mean? Was that inches of mercury or something?

At sea level 9:1 is ~132 psi. That would be optimal.

If he said the compression was 175%, then yes he doesn't know what he's talking about.

LOL This says it all.

A percentage would make sense if it was less than 100.

So with his #s I get 231 psi.

If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

what would be the lowest compression acceptable? when I check out this one fd im getting a compression test done on it if I like it before I buy it, and wondering what the lowest acceptable test rating would be on the engine.

sorry if im jacking the thread, something you might want to know as well though.

11 is the highest possible. It used to be 10, but then Mazda started making them go to 11.

But couldn't you just make 10 better and then call that 10? Yeah, but ours go to 11!

6.5 Kgf/cm2= about 92 psi (low limit for decent performance)
7.0 Kgf/cm2= about 100 psi (book spec)
8.5 Kgf/cm2= about 120 psi (really nice numbers)
9.0 Kgf/cm2= about 128 psi (killer #s)

175% of book spec would be
12.25 Kgf/cm2=175 psi
