What do I do? New axle? help!

Hi, so I took my FD into the shop to have some studs replaced on the rear left that the previous owner cross threaded. Long story short they cut the studs out and now they cant get the hub off the axle, its fused on and they said they will need a machine shop to do it which may cause damage to the axle. So if thats the case I will need a new one? whats the most cost effective way I can go about this? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds like the shop does not know what they are doing. The rear studs cannot be replaced without destroying the wheel bearing in the hub. That requires a press and new bearings.

If the actual half shaft is seized, you can buy complete replacement half shaft assemblies at Rockauto for around $84.00

Getting a new axle is easy. The hard part is the upright.

A new one is a few hundred. A used upright is < $100, just got to find one.

You can probably guess how I know this...

If you have a big angle grinder, the CV joint can be cut and the upright salvaged.

I still have an upright I am hoping to get the axle out of, one day.

That "80-90 at rock auto" is the front hubs only, and they are dead simple.

The rear ones are where the problems lie.
