Purchased a 99 Civic EX in cash, swapped the motor out and did a bunch of stuff to it. Now I am selling the Civic to buy my FD. I worked hard for the money used on my Civic and now I am selling my hard work to buy an FD and spend more money on the car. I am 20, and I am an EMS student, I have had jobs ranging from construction, to security, to computer stuff (programming, HTML etc), and taking care of snakes at a local reptile shop. Just gotta save, save, save. Don't save it all for the car, just put a little in savings, buy a part, save up again, buy a part, save up a longer time, buy a bigger part (Single, or Ported Motor) and before you know it you'll have a modded out FD. Don't forget all the "free" mods you can do.

I worked my way up the entertainment industry.... first in military simulation in florida, then gameing in chicago, then motioncapture in L.A. and now Visual Effects for Sony Pictures Imageworks....

I went and worked a side job during my Mocap Days and was able to scape together 30K to get my school loans /debt paid off and pay for the 20K of car... and now I didn't get a better appartment since I've lived in L.A. the one I have is Okay... I deal with it and I take the money I get in raises and put 50% away for a rainy day and electronics (Working for Sony Helps) and the other 50% go to the car....

But definitely, doing stupid stuff (Eating out for lunch everyday and spending money on clubs and boose is something I don't do often) 1X a month or 1X every 2 Months... and I concider it a treat... but the 7 is a bigger treat.....

Also Had a beater '92 eclipse for 8 Years and swore to myself that a new car was out of the question untill I Paid Everything off...

I guess it boils down to Income / Priorities...

I am going back to school since i cant work right now! I was working full time for mazda of san bernardino! But now I can't work due to a ripped rotator cuff in my left arm. Yeah it feels great (said with great sarcasm) but Once its fixed I will wait till I can go back to work and get a better job, cause that one sucked ballz! O and also, I jsut worked extremely hard and pay for all my ****. I paid my dues earlier in life, I'm now 19, and now I am just working hard to keep what I have so that it may become the great track star that I want! Along with some sill *** stupid beater cars...

Since we dug this up...

I'm the network manager for Telenor Sattelite Services, a Norwegian-owned communications company.. we provide services like phone and internet terminals on cruise ships and air planes, and video feeds from cruise missles..

I bought a 1st Gen on accident 6 years ago and loved it. Then bought a 91 but the O-rings cooked 2 years into it, just as the odometer rolled to 100k.. so I unloaded it and have had a 93 for a few years. Fortunately it's a second car and it serves me well as an outlet for automotive creativity.

I bought my FD back in 1996. It was my dream car ever since it's introduction to the U.S. back in 1993. I was a Finance Recruiter(Headhunter) when I bought the car. Over the last seven years of owning and modding the car I have spent 5 years as a Headhunter, 3 years in Enterprise Software Sales & now I'm a full-commisioned Loan Officer for a Mortgage Brokerage.

I usually just charge my mods to my Credit Card and work my *** off to pay them off. Right now my credit cards kicking my ***! BTW, I'm 35.

Well.. there's no turning back now... :-)

Wow you are right.. this thread IS pretty old.. but "what
the hey.. it's better than Irwin.." (watch Fletch w/ Chevy Chase )
So.. yea... as long as we are at it and since I am rather
new to the RX-7 world, here we go!
I am 19, a college student at GVSU, and I have been in love with the RX-7
since first seeing one in 7th grade at my buddie's dad's
house (1996).
By the time I need a
car (junior year in "hi skewl") I had already learned that:
A. My parents wanted me to "learn the value of a dollar"
(a lesson that sticks with me still.. I don't regret it)
and
B. I did not have enough dollars for the RX-7!
(not to imply that anyone who had their parents buy
their car for them would not know the value of a
dollar)
So, with what little money I had from lawn mowing my entire adolescence,
and some other odd jobs,
I was able to afford my 86' VW Jetta (parents loaned me $$ for insurance).
That car was a piece, but at least it had a nice stereo .

Now I am going to speed through the rest of this...
Got a job fixing computers for consultant based in South
Bend, Jetta died during the winter, parents traded it in
on used Subaru for $2000. I got 94 escort station
wagon (and had to pay $200 a month to cover the price
difference until I hit 4k) Summer after junior year started working at best buy as a
computer technician, in the fall bought Honda Del Sol SI after
selling escort to parents for what I paid them for it (I had invested in maintenece).

Did a year at community college to cut costs and save up $$ from work..
After all that I sold the Del Sol for more than I paid for it over the summer
(the guy I bought it from gave me a
good deal cause he thought it was the trim model
below) and with all I saved from best buy I was able to
BUY THE SAME RX-7 FROM MY FRIENDS DAD THAT I HAD
ORIGINALLY FALLEN IN LOVE WITH!!! WOW
WHAT A AWESOME LOVE STORY- just like in the movies !

Wow! Sorry about the life story.. but If I read it i would
find it *touching* !

Oh.. and yeah... can't have the "7" without having a
second car *at least here in MI* sooo... ironically the
car that I am actually making payments on is a '96
Subaru Impreza L.. winter beater only financial snag
now is that it is too much $$ to have both insured at the same time.. which isnt a problem

I'm a Legal Assistant and also work on CGI and video testimony/exhibits for trial preperation, for a solo practitioner. Been in the legal field and worked for the same attorney for 19 years.

We were involved in a trial last December against Ford Corp. in South Texas where the jury awarded $225,000,000.00. to the Plaintiffs we were representing. (225 million)!!!

I live with my parents but they moved to the basement, leaving me the master bedroom so that I can have an easier time with the opposite sex.

My parents bought me the RX7 for me to help me impress the girls. It seems to work out so far except for some reason they don't want to get to third base unless I turn the boost up to 24 psi on the stock twins. Well, I'm on my third set of twins but not a big deal, my dad pays for them.

I'm trying to get a job pouring concrete in Iraq but it seems none of the employers I interviewed with wants to give me a firm start date - something about the ungratefull summabitches Iraquis who hadn't realized that we have given them the liberty to rob, kill and cause a lot of mayhem - a gift of magnificient proportion if you asked me.

Hell, let me jump on in here too. When I bought my '93 Base, I was a college student with a full academic ride to UT Austin and an great internship at a local software company.

I jumped into that one without fully researching the car and it was a POS. So I stopped the bleeding, bought a Tacoma and a house.

Now as 27 year-old independent software/real estate consultant (here's to the self-employed folks nowadays no more/less secure than employees...Texas has even had state employee layoffs), I am about to buy a sweet '95 PEP!

Good luck to everyone in their endeavours, and always remember to network business-wise within the group when possible.
