Water bad for intake?

I'm looking to make an intake duct that will lead right under the nose of the bumper. It won't be a huge opening, but I know that some water is o.k. But exactly how much amount of water would be fine until it turns into a problem. Would it be bad on a rainy night, or just in a big puddle?

I've always understood that any water near the intake is bad

If you install a "ram air" duct, you will get lots of items sucked into your intake. That would include: water, bugs, rocks, and whatever else is on the road. I don't think it's such a good idea.

If you have a stock airbox, check this out:

I'm not sure if there is a magical amount that is allowed. I'd try to keep it away from water if you could.

Well, i'm not worried about bugs etc.. because I will have a screen that would hardly let anything through, but my primary concern is on water. So no water should be hitting intakes? Well how about the vented hoods, don't they get a bunch of water getting sucked in through intakes?

The only way it will be a problem in our cars (non-MAF) is if you submerge the intake in water and cause hydrolock. The filter will stop junk from getting in the engine but, will have to clean the filter more often.

If you drive it in the pouring rain the filter will get soaked and the water will be pulled through the filter as fine droplets. This should not be a issue. Your engine consumes lbs of water every day you drive it as water vapor in the air.

So just avoid deep puddles and take it easy in heavy rain.
