Question very bad idle

I've searched a lot of threads already, but nothing seems to work for me yet. My car was taken to the tracks and after the second run, my car started to shake violently at idle. There was also a rythmic ticking noise (possibly a shot catalytic converter.) The car idles with less vacuum pressure then before (-32 cmHG now versus -46 cmHG when it was running good). Ive also noticed that I get disgusting gas mileage now (somewhere around 8 mpg under normal driving conditions). Since then, Ive had the spark plugs and wires replaced and nothing has changed. Now the car is very hesitant to return to idle. It will sit at about 2000 rpm's for 5-10 seconds before it returns to idle (around 800 rpm) Also, with the clutch disengaged, if you give it a little gas, the shakes go away and the vacuum pressure increases. Ive heard that it might be a wiring problem. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

As always, check the MAP sensor hose.

If it's not the map sensor hose, you should get your compression checked.....

Do you have power still? Will it boost? The shake and bad vacuum are symptoms of a blown apex seal. But there are other that go along with it.

Like no power, smoke, and an unstable vacuum reading at idle, is yours stable? or does it bounce?

Woo!

I just lost a seal on my rear rotor, 9 times out of 10 it will take out your primary turbo if you lose a seal. Check this.... here were my symptoms.

Rough Idle
Shaking UIM (Upper Intake Manifold)
Lack of power under 2000RPM
Chugging sound From Exhaust
Primary Boost Wasn't as Strong

If this is your problem, your car won't start in about 2 months if you keep driving it... =/

Best of Luck

I still have power, and it does boost and that's why I doubt it's a blown motor. It doesn't smoke from what I can tell, and there is an unstable reading at idle. I called a mazda performance shop and they said it'd be best for me to get a new motor (my motor only has about 17000 miles on it!) .
I'm guessing my car has the boost creep, which has to be a part of the reason it's in the current shape.
I'm thinking I should change my apex seals, but the shop said it'd be almost as expensive as a new motor (hmmm...).
Also, a sheisty shop in town said they performed a compression test and it was fine. So, I'm at a standstill as to what to do next.

A blown motor will easily make boost and good power -- for a while. It's the low rpm and idle that will be bad. Hell, Zerobanger laid down 257 rwhp on a Mustang Dyno (equals ~283-295 on dynojet) with a blown motor.

Replacing the apex seals = rebuilding the motor, which is actually more expensive than just getting a "new" motor (Mazda re-man).

Where do live in CA? Give us your location and some of us Cali guys can point you to a qualified rotary shop.

I live in Napa, CA which is 45 min north of San Francisco. I know M2 perfomance is near me, but any other referrals would be great! M2 quoted me over $4000, which doesn't sound that bad compared to what dealers want.

I have heard good things about C2 Automotive in Oakland. I go exclusively to Rick's Rotary in Pleasanton (bit of a drive for ya). He is an excellent and honest mechanic, not cheap though, but you get what you pay for.

Tell him Tyler sent you. Good luck!
