SRmotorsports PFC

I just recently purchased a SRMotorsports PFC from a local distributor.........

This local distributor is unsure whether or not the PFC was modified so I do not have to cut the 4 wires on the harness.

Does anyone here know how SRMotorsports modifies the PFC so the wire harness does not have to be cut?

I have opened the box up and there is no physical evidence of any modifications (ie. pins removed, connector leads running to the PCB cut)

I would like to find a way to verify whether or not this modification to the PFC has been done.

Another problem is that this unit appears to of been used already so how do I verify that the base map settings have not been changed? Where can I find the values for all the cells in the base map so I can compare to verify this?

The last thing I want to do is to blow up my engine due to an improperly configure ECU!

Thanks very much for any suggestions or recommendations.

At least in theory.....

I should not have to cut the harness. HOWEVER like I mentioned neither SRMotorsports or the local shop cannot give me a 100% on this.

SRMotorsports did tell me that they do ship units out that are not modified to allow for not having to snip the harness wires.

This is why I would like to be 100% sure before putting it in..........is there any way I can confirm this for myself?

thanks for your response Doug

Look VERY carefully at the pins on the PFC to make sure that there have been 4 pins removed. If they are all there, you will have to pull the pins (do that instead of cutting your wire harness).

The base 5.08 version map was called the "base mod" map in previous posts. The maps can be found here: http://rx7.homeip.net/pfc/ Unfortunately, that site has been down for a week.....

I might get ambitious this weekend and record all the values myself in a non-excel spreadsheet. If I do, I'll email it to you.

yeah, just check the pin, if there are 4 missing, they were removed, if they are all there, you'll need to cut the wires

Checked and.........

All the pins are intact. The wire leads running from the pins to the PCB are also intact.

So apparently this SRMotorsports PFC is not modified for the Rx7 harness? Strange the local shop could not fiqure this out? Pretty basic stuff obviously........especially if you work with it on a daily basis!

I also need to verify the settings to make sure they have not been changed from the default settings (just need to figure out where I can get the maps for the base program). As I mentioned earlier it is obvious that this PFC has been used previously..............pins are scuffed up, dirt and black residue reside around the connector and on the foam seal. I'm an engineer and work with high end electronics and can tell when something has been used or not!

Actually this PFC just might be returning to the shop Monday morning and they can swap it for the actual product I had been informed I was buying.

Thank god for this forum. Almost everything I have learnt about the Rx7 was either found on this forum or links where provided to where I could access the information.

Thanks to everyone who contributes,

RM
PS. I love this car!!!

cannot express my gratitude..........wish the local shop guys where as helpful!

Integrity and concern for fellow human beings is sorely lacking in today's society.

Hmmm.....maybe try this.....

Sometimes when I'm having trouble accessing a web link I clear my cache, cookies etc

Also, if using internet explorer, under Tools - Internet options - Security - settings - custom level

Under "Scripting" make sure "allow paste operations via script" is disabled. Javascript will sometimes prevent access to websites but alot of the time you need this function to view interactive aspects of websites.....

Can do same in Navigator.........

may help.....may not!

Well what are the symptoms of a SR motorsports pfc that the wires have not been cut?? My car at idle with A/C on jumps all over the place - is that one? The A/C works just screws up the idle...

thanks.

A/C screwing up the idle is just a common FD problem, I think. The PFC should have nothing to do with that. I think the reasoning behind cutting the wires is to get a smoother rev range, and perhaps a more stable idle (I assum without A/C).

Lucky you, my A/C is spotty on ALL FOUR settings....even on my 95, which are supposed to work better. On my mechanic's early 93, his A/C works perfectly, go figure.

BTW, I was having the same issue, except with the headlights on. What I did was reinitialize the PFC and let it learn properly the different idle settings. I was too anxious the first time and didn't give it five minutes on each load setting. The second time, I did that and have had great idle stability with all load situations since.

Another thing you could try is to raise the point that the injectors kick back on on the "Rev/Idle" control map. I think the default setting is 1200 rpm for the A/C load, try moving that up a little bit if the relearn technique doesn't work.
