vac hose leak???

ok it looks like no one could think of anything for my last post...my friend has a 93 with no power...new turbos, no smoke, sounds like crap, still gets boost but is very weak. coils replaced, plugs replaced, map sensor replaced...car still sucks. the only other thing i could think of is a vac hose being off. this all started when he took off and painted the rigid tube going to the upper intake manifold. how does a cra normally act when there is a vac hose loose or leaking? please help if you can?

If a hose is off, you could have no boost at all. Basically the car would have very little power and would seem like it was going to stall at any moment.

If it's just a leak, I would imagine you would be able to get some boost.

Does the car have a boost/vacuum gauge on it? If not, might be a good time to add one.

thats a good question...I'm not really sure about the pattern but I think i saw the gauge get up to around 7 or 8 lbs. he used to make 14 lbs. even with the 7 or 8 lbs of boost the car is still really slow. its not like a normal rx7 making 7 or 8 lbs. the thing can only get up to about 55 or so. My rx was running on 1 rotor for a little while...his has a little more power than mine did. also the idle is stable now but when this first started it was all over the place and the car was about to stall all the time.

If he is still making 7 or 8 lbs, but can only get up to 55 mph, then I would check the compression.

Could have easily popped the motor running 14 lbs, depending on his mods.

Compression check will be a good start. If that checks out, then you can confidently start to diagnose the other systems.
