oh yeah that was on my list. I actually had the Pettit racing set on my list but if I came across an R set I was going to jump on those.

There's a difference of about 3.5% airflow between the two runs near redline.
The difference in power would be larger with our cars being turbo, correct?

So car started leaking oil about a week after I got it. Cleaned off the left side of the engine this morning and think I found out where it is coming from. Either the bottom of the oil filter, the connection the filter connects too(oil filter body two o-rings) or the oil pressure sensor. Man things are tight in this engine. I love working on my 04 RAM. Nothing but room

probably but it's going to depend on the details of what you're changing.

Well drove the car 70 miles today 15-20 min in stand still traffic. Car did great, and I confirmed the oil leak is on the section that the oil filter spins on to. Also I smelled eggs today after the car sat and let it sit for about 3 hours. I started it up started driving out the parking lot. I was stuck on a hill so I was ideling it up and smelled the eggs after I was able to take off so probably will need a new cat , downpipe still on order and can not find a used RB dual tip for a good price so guess I will buy a new one.

AST replaced with an OEM AST. Getting there, only a few more things to go and I will be happy. Ordered the oil filter stand o-rings that are leaking, noticed rx7 have a battery cover so will order that too. HSK downpipe should be shipped out in the next week or so.

Man breaking these exhaust bolts are a bitc-!!! My truck was not this hard. Soaked these suckers over night and freshly sprayed them again. Might have to ride to my old job and put it up in the air to get better leverage and worst case impact gun!!!

Got one!!! Dam- these sucker... now let's try the other . Dang exhaust would have been on by now started working on this thing around 6:30! Had to jack the car up about 6 more inches to put an extra wrench on the end for leverage.

Done!!! I really like the exhaust! Did not think I would notice a difference in power but man it spools up a little quicker. I can only imagine adding the HKS downpipe now.

Ok, the base lip is actually not bad. If mine was not cracked in the middle with a big chunk out of it I probably would have stayed with it. I do like the R1 a little better. What made you but the base lip on?

If you don't have some kind of heat wrap or heat shield on the downpipe you will notice your floor boards heating up.

Yep 👍 already on my todo list. Not doing heat wrap on this. Really do not like that setup on stuff unless that is the only option. So sending out or might do local once I get the downpipe. Picking up my battery cover locally Saturday.

I think the R1 lip and rear wing were simply added to distinguish the R1 package from the other versions and make a statement that this is the more sporting one. They were tacked onto the basic design and are not really an inherent part of it.
The R1 front lip and rear "floating spoiler" were developed in the wind tunnel and as you say definitely tacked on to the performance version of the FD after they found out how much front end lift the new body had at speed in the initial wind tunnel tests. Together they halve the front lift coefficient without affecting the rear- though they do increase coefficient of drag.

The R1 rear element was definitely styled to look like a wing, though it acts as a spoiler (hence Mazda's term "floating spoiler")- so I agree there is an element of style over pure function there.

So, I agree with them being tacked on to the beautiful FD body design and I agree with the rear wing being overly styled (could have been a simple duck bill spoiler or wicker); but they were put there for performance in the end.

So gauges should be shipping out in the next day or two. I have a triple dash pod but like the din pod too.

Negative/Positive with the dash speaker pod is I loose the clean dash factory look, but I am able to keep my eyes at least somewhat on the road if I need to check the gauge.

Negative/Positive with the Din, I am able to keep the clean dash look, but I have to completely take my eyes off the road.

Gives me something more to think about. I have read other post about the same and need to make a decision for myself

You are absolutely correct. The non-R1 car with no wing shows purity of form. I think the R1 bits look tacky. Nice job, can't wait to see the car at SevenStock!

Just drove around and not liking the location of where the DIN mount would be. I put in the 3 gauge pod and functionally works better. Guess I just will have to live with the unclean dash look

....
Why are you set on all these gauges when you're trying so hard to keep a clean factory look?
Again, IMO the only gauges you really need on a stock car with a stock ECU are boost and temp, either oil or coolant. Having both is redundant. Coolant is typically easiest to install and if installed using the TB coolant line, easily reversible. And I don't see the need for fuel pressure. You can't adjust it anyway.

Dash pod completely ruins the "stock look". Looking down at gauges for a moment is no different than looking at your stereo. Din is the way to go!!
