Cool! That bay is gunna look damn good w/ the red hoses and all cleaned up. If I could have told the previous owner of mine what color vacuum lines to get I would pick red. Beggers can't be choosers.

Is that the clutch still on the transmission?

If so, why would you leave it in there? Did you separate it from the engine before pulling it?

I have never heard of that being done, but another Rx7 guy did it a few months ago. I don't understand.

Looks just like my engine bay right now.

To remove my motor I just pulled the bottom access cover from the tranny and started to loosed the Pressure plate bolts one at a time. Then once I got them all loose, I started to remove them in a star pattern till they were all out and then slid the motor off the input spline. Easy as pie.

I tried to pop the throw out bearing off for over an hour till I gave up and just did it the easy way. I am wondering how to get he motor back in though. How would you torque the pressure plate bolts once the motor is installed again? I know you could tighten them but you can't get a torque wrench in there to make sure they are all at the right specs? Any ideas? I could try and remove the clutch and pressure plate form the TOB again, but that would be a bitch.

I am amazed. I mean, I am no expert mechanic but I have never seen anyone remove an engine like that. Now, you speak up and make 3 people that have done it in an Rx7.

I wonder if there is someone telling people to remove the engine and leave the clutch in. I simply cannot imagine removing all those pressure plate bolts through the access hole.

That is similar to working with a blindfold on. Why make a job twice as hard as it needs to be.

I have participated in (or performed) at least 4 engine swaps in FD's. Each and every time we just pull the engine with the clutch attached.

When ready to reinstall, just put the new clutch on, or reinstall the old and go on with your life.

I sat here for 15 minutes pondering this and simply cannot understand why someone would leave the clutch in the car. Can someone enlighten me?

Unbolting the clutch and replacing it is easy , when the transmission is in place. Taking the clip off and replacing it is not so easy. do not spring the clip ,it will not hold in place and it cost alot for a clip.
