unknown gauge failures

i put my motor back in, and for some reason the tach doesnt work and there is no coolant temp. the oil pressure signal isnt showing but i know that's because the damn wirebroke off the connector. as far as i know the otheres are connected. is the coolant thermosensor the one on the waterneck or is that the level sensor? just asking because it resulted in me not knowing my engine was running so hot it blew the turbos. i hope the motor is okay. lots and lots of white smoke :-/ anyone know where these sensors plug in ? Also i installed an msd hyfire 6 box. there is a tach wire but i just put it onto the leading plugs, it shouldnt interfere with rpm reading should it? the rpm jumps when i turn the wheels from 0 to about 800 rpm and it also moves when i start it, but no while it's running?

The white smoke, on a new engine, is normal for a little bit. All the lube used when piecing it back together burns off. However, if you had it running a while w/out it going away... your coolant is leaking into the engine.

IIRC, the stock temp gauge gets it reading from a small sensor on the rear housing under the oil pressure sender. IIRC (once again), the wire runs under the coils to the sensor from the main harness.

so theres no way coolant can leak thru the turbos? it probably doesnt even come against any seals, just in the housing and back out right? so if its blowing coolant like a bitch, its prolly that the motor is blown..great...

someone once told me about something called a block weld.. wtf is it

Sorry I made my last post based on entirely false info, so I decided it was best to just delete it with a "Bah" rather than spread the wrong info and get flamed.

If you have a coolant leak in the turbos, I suppose it would be possible for it to leak into the compressor, go through the intake manifold, and finally get combusted and come out as white smoke.

I think at that point you'd be burning enough coolant that you'd be able to detect it in the intake lines. Have you checked the intake for coolant (lines after the turbo)?

i havnt gotten a chance to really look at anything so far its still sitting in a distant parking lot, that was on my list of things to do though, check the compressor housings for coolant

but then it would only really happen under boost :-/. also what i noticed is that it seemed to be steaming from under the uim, the only hose i can think of is the hose going to the tb, which i have re-routed to where the tb outlet would go

today i bypassed the coolant to the turbo and just linked the turbo in to the turbo out on the block so the turbos saw no coolant and let it idle. i gave it a few revs that resulted in a good ammount of smoke but after about 10 minutes it cleared up and there was no smoke in the exhaust at all, besides a little oil but that's beside my interest. i drove it around the blokc and a little bit of oil was burning out the back. this may be because the vacuum line to the rear oil injector slipped of so it might just be giving excess oil, or the whole turbo got cooked and the oil seals went out also. either way, the coolant burning stopped when i bypassed the turbos. i'll do further testing like compression testing, and a block test to locate any possible combustion in the coolant.
