There's nothing to really see. It's a smaller battery tray that accomodates a smaller (51R) battery so you can use a larger intercooler without having to relocate the stock battery or use a mini battery kit.

Jeff's tray is an excellent product at a very fair price. Highly recommended for those of you not running an IC that requires a mini-battery/relocation.

I've already got one, but I wanted to give my thumbs up, too -- as rynberg said, it is very nice and well worth the modest price.

I have had one of Jeff's battery trays for several years and it is a great product. I do not have a larger intercooler, I bought it to give a little more room under the cramped engine bay. I would highly recommend it.

I didn't need it for IC clearance, either. I wanted a lighter battery and I wanted to give some additional room for the air to flow out of the back of the radiator.

Price? I was fixing to fab my own but maybe I'll just get one of these to save some time. Anyone know the normal price and the group purchase price?

Also, what all mouting points does it us? Is it just the 2 on the frame rail or does it also use the point on the cross member? Anyone know for sure?

Thanks,
STEPHEN

I'll have to double check with my supplier on the price. The price for the last group buy was $55 shipped anywhere in the 48 states.

As for the battery mounting points it uses all 3 stock bolt holes. Check out the pic that speedking posted. It comes with a new tie down crossbar and uses the stock "j-bolts".

It is a direct bolt-in mod and 100% reversable. The 51R is a stock battery for some Hondas, Mitsubishis, etc. It weighs about 10lbs less than the stocker and allows more room for air exiting the radiator, it is available at most parts stores.

If you decide to run the Optima it has almost the same capacity as the stock FD sized battery. I ran a standard 51R battery for 3 yrs with no problems, it has considerably more capacity than the mini batteries.

Hmmm, well shoot. I was hoping it didnt use the mounting point on the crossmember cause that might not work well with the IC I'm fabing up.

Do you happen to know exactly how far the tray comes out from the fram rail its sitting on? I can only go out 3" from the frame rail, do you know if the tray sticks out more than that???

Thanks,
STEPHEN

I am definitely interested as well if it will fit with the Blitz FMIC.

Thanks,

Chris

Has anyone who's done this noticed remarkle difference in operating temperatures? I'm contimplating relocating my battery, or going with a smaller battery tray to increase airflow over the radiator.

I'm undecided as of yet if I will go FMIC, I will be staying with stock/upgraded twins.

Any input? If the effect would be the same as relocating, or better, I would definately be in.

So this smaller replacement battery is better? Is it the type that is gonna die if you dont disconnect it and the car sits for a week? I dont know much about these aftermarket batteries.

Mini battery kits (e.g. Rotary Extreme) are prone to discharge in a relatively short amount of time if your car is not driven regularly, so if you don't want to deal with the hassle of having to charge a dead or low battery if you haven't driven in several days, refer to the Optima 51R.

Precisely why I went with Jeff's battery tray option, along with a $40 Cosco 51R no-maintenance battery with a 7-year warranty.

I have accidentally left the key set to "on" for several hours a couple of times with no ill effects. Try THAT with a PC680!

^ Do not use costco or similar water filled batteries. The engine bay is way to hot and they will leak. The acid will eat away your car like the blob. There's plenty of threads with pics and I have a thread that tells you to at least get a battery wrap if you can't go gel. I'm gellin'.

...and if you need hte stock replacement. Are you gellin'?

I won't argue with you that that CAN'T happen, but the chances are extremely low.

That $40 Costco battery has made it through a Cali summer and several auto-x and track events. At some point, the stock battery did leak slightly in my car (previous owner), as the engine bay cross-member has a small acid stain. In the grand scheme of things, the number of people running an Optima or Odyssey battery are pretty small. The thousands of the rest of us don't seem to be having too many battery leaking problems...

My cheapo battery ran low on water and i think boiled over? but it leaked and when i went to take the battery out I had a heartattack. I've resprayed some of my engine bay, intercooler mounting bracket, swaybar upper mounting bracket. Not to mention the corrosion eating into the engine harness - weirdest crap i've ever seen.

Mind you, I hadn't driving the car for 1 month and this happened to me...learnt my lesson the hard way! So lets get TURBOJEFF's production rolling!

only 28 spots to fill

I don't know what battery "rynberg" is referring to or has exactly, but Costco sells the Optima.
