Turbo problem or clutch slipping ?

I have noticed sometimes that when i shift fast from 2nd to third,

my RPM's dont go anywhere and they are usually stuck in the 4k- 4500 range, but my boost gauge is showing me 10psi of boost.

now is this a clutch slippage problem or is my boost off ?

Generally when the clutch is slipping, the rpms climb but the car doesn't accelerate. That shows that the engine is spinning but the power isn't tranferring to the wheels.

It typically starts in the upper gears (4 & 5) as the load is much greater than the lower gears. You'll also get that burning clutch smell when it's happening.

well then,

what could possibly cause my boost guage to respond, and no power be put to the wheels during this 2-3 seconds?

When I am below 4800 RPMs I do hear a noise that does seem like air or something is traveling somewhere it should not be... Like as if something is sticking open.

I had this problem last summer near the end so i didnt bother fixing it or looking at it. I was going to do it this summer as soon as i got my car out.. but the problem had disapreared on me for the past month.. now it is back...

It is very intimitent, but when it does show up it will stay now for a while =(
i guess i need to take things apart...

Any idea of where i should start looking ?

There's not much you can check visually. The stock Y-pipe has a coupler which is a weak spot that can fail. Most likely you won't be able to tell if there is an issue with it unless you remove it.

Ok

well when I am boosting under 4500rpm i can hear a whooshing sound and the car does not creat more then 5 psi at best until i get it up into parallell mode 4500 + or so...

Could this be caused by a faulty y pipe?

also... Could there be something wrong inside the Y pipe? Im not sure what it looks like in there or what the main activity the air pipe does, but from looking at the Efini one, there is a plate or something inside the efini y pipe if i can recall correctly...

Do you have full boost after 4500 rpms?

Yes i do get about 10-12psi

If i can recall, everything was working fine up until a few days when i took the car out when it was a bit coolish, i boosted to about 15psi and ever since i did that I have been having the problem.

Same thin happend last summer.. was working fine.. took it out for a late night cruise boosted a few times hit 15psi once or twice... next day barely any boost out of the primary...

If you get full boost after 4500 rpms, then it's not a boost leak. It's a problem with the control system somewhere. I would start checking these three parts to the turbo system:

Pre-Control
Charge Control
Turbo Control
