Trying to decide

Just found out my turbo (the primary) is having problems. Low boost with oil in it. This is basically a stock R-1 with DP and Intake as the only mods. Which turbo solution do you recommend? (I do intend on putting an intercooler and cat back on the car as well as a power FC and fuel pump.) I would like to stay sequential and unfortunately have to stay relatively smog legal (canceling the single turbo idea). Would you opt for stock rebuild, stage 1, or stage 2 from BNR? Or the Petitt Racing High Flow rebuild? Or .................?

I love Pettit's products as well, however they can be quite pricey.. I would recommend BNR. As for what stage you should get, that depends on the goals for your car.

You should also check out Pineapple Racing's rebuilds. They do great work with VERY nice prices. www.pineappleracing.com

Does anyone know how the BNR rebuilds compare to the M2 jobs and the Pettits?

I have a 93 R-1 that has 45000 orig miles. I am the orig owner. This car has seen very little driving time in the last 4 years. Recently i took it in for complete major service, replacement of vaccum lines with silicone, change a few selonoids, new down pipe, air intake upgrade (Rotary Reliability), RB springs, RB front and rear sway bars, tokiko adj shocks, all fluids and upgraded brake pads with turned rotors. Since I picked up the car I noticed what I perceived as a low boost problem with the first turbo. Just no power until the second turbo kicks in then feels ok. I mean step on the gas and wait for the first turbo to spool up. Took back to shop and they said there was oil in the first turbo which would not allow it to spool up, something about the added weight. They said it was driveable but if I wanted power in the lower RPMs I would need a rebuild. They wanted to send a core off to someplace called "Tech" and then take my core in exchange. I thought I would try to get as much info on rebuilds and replacements before making a decision. I also do not want to lose the original core. This engine is stock and as I said hasn't been used much in the recent years. I plan on adding an IC (like M2 medium) and a cat back and fuel pump. I already have PFC programed for these mods ready to instal in the car as well.

sorry to keep up with the inane questions, but have YOU seen a boost gauge with the numbers on it? Just trying to make sure you don't pay for a rebuild you don't need. Still can't figure out how oil is slowing down the turbo... maybe old, coked oil in the passages, or plugging the vanes. Seriously, have you looked at the pieces yourself? Who is "they"?

Did "they" mean N-tech? Do a search on N-tech versus BNR rebuilds.

The shop is Rotary Reliability in Santa Ana Ca ( http://members.aol.com/rkillerbee/ ). No I have not seen the parts but they made it sound like there was liquid oil on the vanes. Please ask as many questions as you like. I will try the search you suggested. Do you think I need another opinion? I know artguy really trusts these guys. Thanks
