lol, and here i was thinking it was just me. yeah, the footwell area and the tranny tunnel get really warm/hot for me too. anyone else share this phenomenon and does anyone know what causes it and if there is any cause for alarm?

It's heat from your exhaust. The whole center console area should be hot.

It's probably the heat from the precat.

Not! It's hot with a Downpipe too. It's normal.

Before WW2 Mazda built space heaters, just couldn't switch totally to auto manufacturing.

I have this problem also and the other day I took my console out to do some repairs to it and found that my shifter boot was dry rotted and had holes in it so I am thinking that the hot air from under the car gets in under the console. so I am going to try and get a new shifter boot (the rubber one) and see if that helps.

the console IS NOT HOT in my car. the precat puts out a lot of heat, and that coupled with the main cat can be overwhelming. however like bestkeptsecret said, it could be as simple as the shifter boot allowing the heat through.

on an exhaust note, the DP will help rid the heat of the precat AND lower underhood temps.....

a little heat is ok, but alot is another thing. my friend brian, BestKeptSecret, recently got his FD, and the transmission tunnel and shifter area get smoking hot. he noticed the shift boot, and is replacing it soon. he also ordered a DP, and that should cure his woes....

before i got my downpipe, the tunnel used to get extremely hot. I mean my legs would sweat if i wore jeans. But after the downpipe installation, the heat was gone (reminds me of a song from the 80's).

I say, get a downpipe extend the life of your turbo's, motor, and legs

If you get excessive heat from the tunnel area, you maybe be missing some heat shield or your precat is clogged.

Mine is cold with precat or dp. It's a little rare to have no heat from the tunnel since every other FD that I have driven when I was shopping for an FD all get warm or hot. In general, if it's hot to the touch from inside, something is wrong.

Mine gets moderately toasty with DP & MP. There's a lot of friction goin on inside that puppy, but i stumbled onto a fun little fact. I forgot to re-install my bottom transmission cover after changing the fluid once, and now when i'm driving along, air can cool that thing down really nicely. I don't drive on bad roads, so i'm not worried about rocks popping up onto it, and i rarely drive in the rain, so not concerned with road grime. Just my take.
