Question tranny to engine

im trying to mate my tranny (manual) to my engine, cluth seems like it was aligned properly, i can get the tranny main gear to line up with the engine's end and i was able to push the tranny to the engine but theres something catching .. the tranny is maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch from connecting to the engine fully, any insight will be most welcomed and appreciated

If you have the transmission ½ inch away from the engine I would think it is the dowel's that are not setting, if everything feels right just put a bolt in the top and bottom of the bell housing and pull the tran’s into the engine by tightening the bolts slowly.
