Took the plunge...
Well after a couple of misfires I finally picked up a 94 red/black R2 with 34000 miles today from North Carolina and drove it back 500 miles to NJ. As a 20 year old I purchased the first RX7 in 1979 and never got it out of my system.

Looks like your R2 is in great condition. I'm curious how it compares to the S2000?
Do you notice the extra torque of the RX-7? How do the two cars compare in ride and handling.....are they similar, or do you notice distinct differences? Any other comparisons you'd care to make?

A bit hard to compare a new car (back in 2000) and a 12 year old but there are some differences.
S2000 I really liked a convertable but it had drawbacks - noise, got cut once, pain to clean rear plastic window (new ones are glass). Due to being a convertable you really have a tight fit because of the design of the car. I'm 6-2 and it got old after a while. That all said the car was awsome - I loved the style (not as much as the rx7). It wasnt a common car back then but has become more common now (another + for the rx7). The ride was around the same as the rx7 and the handling probably a bit better due to the bigger tires. Instrument panel sucked (hated the digital dash). Gotta love driving a convertable on a summer night...
RX7 - what can I say, I sold the S2000 and got a 7. Style is tops. Interior design/layout perfect. A bit tight fit but not as bad as the Honda. With some new tires (I'll check to see whats on there now) it will outhandle the s2000. Doesnt seem tail happy like the s2000 which was kind of a nervous car over any kind of bumps. Much stronger on the low end. I havent really reved the s*#t out of it yet. Only been to 6000rmp. But the car seems as fast or a bit faster than a S2000 which reved to 9000. The transmission on the S2000 was slick, the mazda for a 12 year old box is close just not as short thows. Clutch much better on mazda. Honda was hard to get used to. Opening the engine compartment - well the honda wins there for simplicity, much easier to work on. More storage room in the mazda. In the final analysis...I'm in love with this car....
