Too much backpressure?

I have just installed a silencer on my FD due to some Police problems i had and at WOT it sounds like i have 2 GT wastegates open with a big single. Is that too much backpressure? Did anyone had problems of overheating after installed a silencer?

I had silencers on my old car. the car felt slow as **** with them in and I felt like **** driving it. Thats about all I noticed. No difference in heat...about 1psi less boost. My opinion on silencers is that if you have to have them in you have the wrong exhaust. Who pays money for an aftermarket exhaust for the performance and sound and then makes it worse than stock by putting in silencers?

There are people who may want to use the silencers on the street and then remove them for the track. They do have their application, but people just need to be aware that adding restriction reduces power to some extent.

Normally back pressure should not exceed 1.25 psi.
When there is too much back pressure you will surely have less power and will likely over heat much easier. The engine will also sound different as the extra back pressure can cause the intake tone to change.

Souroull, yes they still doing that and it's getting worse now since they made a new team to check only for mods and they qonfiscate the car. Many friends of mine lost their cars this way, btw is your name Marios Souroullas from Lim?

Second, i didn't pay money for that exhaust, it just came on the car when i imported it from Japan. The previous owner the japanese guy installed that exhaust and i got busted 4 times already. One more and they will take my license for 1-2 years.

How the hell do i know if it has more backpressure than it should have? All i hear at WOT is the exhaust soumd like SHHHHHH... like 2 HKS GT Wastegates open.

You can have it tested, but I have yet to hear of someone having too much backpressure from a silencer and causing heat problems. I doubt it's any more restrictive than the stock catback.

I have checked it and it doesn't cause heat problems, but the reason i have my doubts is because i didn't drive an FD with stock cat-back before, so i don't know if that's normal. What have changed is that it does not accelerate like before, something i expected, but that SHHHH happened to anyone else?

mahjic I can gaurantee you that it is WAY WAY WAY more restrictive than a stock catback. And I would almost bet money on the fact that it is even more restrictive than the whole stock exhaust combined

racer1 I know the noise you are talking about. it did it on my last fd with the silencers in...that noise and the car wasnt going anywhere. You need to get a different exhaust system my friend so you can have the performance of the car back and not get in trouble. I wouldnt even drive the car with the silencer in

Another question. Has anyone tried to open extra holes on the silencer? That would reduce the back pressure butwhat about the noise?

Another thing i noticed is that at the transition the secondary turbo hesitates to enter. That's absolutely too much backpressure.

this is a shot of the silencers we made.....making the hole bigger is not possible once you see how it is made. The exhaust air will hit the back part of the silencer and then have to go all the way back towards the front of the car and out of the smaller pipe on the silencer.

this is why it is so restrictive. Having just a smaller hole without the smaller pipe going into the exhaust will have very minimal effects on the noise or performance so its not worth anything except if you like the look.

best bet is to throw your exhaust up for sale and look for an exhaust you like on the forum. I have the greddy sp with an additional borla xr1 muffler welded to the midpipe and I love the sound and it is quiet even with a single turbo.
