I'm still playing around with the titanium or carbon header/exhaust idea. I can get the titanium tubes and hyrdo-cut plate for next to nothing, finding someone to fab it is another story....
I priced the full carbon headers and it was around 10K. It's great that they don't get hot, but 10k is a bit more than I was hoping to spend. lol

 

What are your plans for the engine? Just curious.

 

Lets see, here's what's under the hood for the most part:

03 LS6 out of a Z06 w/ only 3K miles mated to a steel fork/carbon synchro upgraded T56 via Spec stage 3+ w/ lightened pressure plate and aluminum FW. Custom drive shaft, t2 hybrid diff, 4.11 gear, 300m axles.

The drivetrain is already installed.

The front cover and oil pan were powdercoated high-gloss black and I installed a K-teck black anodized tensioner with black pulley and ATI dampner.

Dedicated MSD coils installed (the red ones made for the LS1)- do little but look nice

The only belt driven accessory will be the black powdercoated high output alt which I had built; the WP is electric. P/S is eliminated with a Maval-converted manual rack in its place.

I plan on running a near-stock Z06 tune on the LS1 PCM to keep everything smooth.

I bought an 78MM LSX TB which I had powdercoated and sent back to the manufacturer to be reassembled to spec with new parts.

All bolts Mazda and GM bolts are new as are the the GM brackets, sensors, clips, harnesses, fuse box covers etc.

Everything under the sun is powdercoated varying textures of black, and all and connectors and wires have been inspected, cleaned, rewrapped etc to look like new. I think Nick will vouch that the engine bay looks pretty much like new, and very black ;o). The bay paint is clean, in fact, the fire wall is probably just as glossy as the roof of the car.

I may add a procharger later down the road if I need more power, but I suspect that my current setup will be plenty.

I'll snap some pics once I'm done wiring up the engine bay.

 

The goals for this project are: cleanliness, reliabilty through simplicity and performance.

Sheesh, talk about neglecting front end pictures. That was frustrating scrolling down seeing *** after *** pictures.

Anyway, looking good.

 

here's another monster truck pic from the front. The painted lip is coming off (got painted due to a mix-up) and is going to be replaced by a CF Mazdaspeed lip. CF Feed side skirts will also be installed.



The front end still needs a hood latch assembly, and the hood, fenders, lights and bumper need to be flushed and gapped.

 

I'll tell ya what Rob, in that shot above the car looks good as hell. Once she's on the road I'll definitely take a road trip down to see that beauty in person. Oh, and don't forget to let me know about the bushings

Anyways, any idea on when everything will be completed? Looks like you're well on your way aside from the interior . Keep up the great work and keep us all posted. I'm definitely following this thread.

 

Thanks Riz. I hope to have her running and sorted out by the end of the year. I think my next step in the engine bay is to anodize the radiator black (still investigating this) and put a high gloss black finish on the brake booster.

The bay will look clean once I install one fo these, that is assuming that I can make it fit; may require trimming over the TB. Should clean her up nicely ;o)

 

Trying to one-up me Rob? Looking good. Can I attempt to swing down, again, and give you a hand?

 

Haha, no competition here man, your car is badass by its own right. I'm just trying to realize an image that's been in my head for too long.

I could definitely use your hand getting the wiring finished up and checked, programming the ECU, and firing her up/ working out bugs.

PS: Did that Canadian IRS GB ever happen?

FYI: Zach has helped me a ton with this project. I drove up to PA to check house his car and took tons of pics and notes. He's been giving me a lot of little pointers along the way that have saved me time and hassle. Ohh, and that's his fuel rail in the pics ;o) Thanks again Zach.

I don't think that cover will clear the hood if you are running hinsons mounting equipment.

You should relocate your fuses on the drivers side and the fan relays on the passenger side. Plus you should run a shroud over the entire front radiator. Here are some threads on torque central to check out.

The cover will be polished and anodized black.

 

the cover will be close. The real clearnace issues generally occur around the TB, so that area will almost certainly need to be carved out.

As far as my project is concerned, I've placed the fuses where they are because I want them to be away from the front opening as well as easliy accessible. I have tons of room so I'm in no practical need of relocation. With the new covers that I have purchased the current fuse box placement should provide a nice and clean OEM feel to the engine bay.

My current shroud is nothing more then a temporary solution. To be honest, what I have in my car right now looks like something that I could have made in 8th grade metal shop. Whatever I do have made will, as you suggested, cover the entire rad, and it will be curved and molded in a manner as to flow with the lines of the car. The shroud will most likely be made of CF as I'm trying to avoid that sheet metal race car look.

Project Update: I have found some new 94 textured panels, the discontinued ones that is ;o) Acquisition in progress.

My subframe is at Paul's place right now. I bet you can get in on the deal. He is setting the gig up and I think plans to have them done in the next couple weeks. I am surpised that more people did not get in on his GB. Holler at him, he's a great guy. My subframe got to him in two days from here in PA.

I cannot wait to do burnouts with no wheel-hop!

On a side note Rob, did they paint under the hood yet? Becuase you have to cut some of the metal out on the hood above the throttle body. I think I showed that to you when you were up.

Problem is that I am out of the country at the moment. I would need to pick up a rear subframe and have it shipped to Paul and stored their until I return. How much did you pay to ship your subframe to Paul, just out of curiosity? And how much was it to get in on the GB?

don't go titanium, i had bought one a while ago, it cost me a shitload of money, and nobody i found could weld it on, and when it was welded on, it fell off the next day, luckily the mounts held it on....

i like titanium b/c it's lightweight and all, but it's impossible to find somebody that can weld it on.
