Thinking of a V8 for my Rx7, which one is best?

My engine I think needs to be replaced or rebuilt. If I wanted to put in a V8 which one would be best? Can I get the Buick Aluminum V8 that was sold to Rover in the sixties? I read in a book that it only weighs 266 pounds? Anybody who has gone through a transplant please tell me your story on this. Thanks.

hmmmm idk if its gonna weight as little as 266 lbs dude. In anycase, I suggest get a turbo LS1 With heads and cam, you will only need a little bit of boost to have a lot of fun Heck with just the stock block, I think you could have tons of fun with a LS1.

good luck

P.S. With a bit of NOS (which a LS1 can easily handle), you'll be flying!

LS1 without a doubt. Its the most compact, refined 350 available. Unless you want to drop coin on an LS6

I think it would be neat if someone dropped in a 2jz-gte engine. They put out at or around 320.

But, yeah, go with the ls1 unless your intrested in dropping in a new ls6, which wont be expensive.

The LT1 is more compact than the LS1. Check out some of Jimlab's posts on it. It's shorter from front to back and top to bottom. The LS1 is lighter though. Funny how aluminum will do that.

As stated, the 2jz swap has been done. IMHO the car looks like *** and for sure has bump steer issues (trouble squeezing an engine that large under the hood).

And the LS6 not being expensive???? A Z06 crate motor is around $7K without any of the belt driven accessories, ecu, or wiring harness. You might be able to pull one out of a wrecked Z06, but those aren't exactly commonplace. Plus, the tranny in the Z06 is not bolted directly to the engine, so you'd have to get an F-body transmission pullout (I assume you'd want the 6 speed t56 so ~$1K used, or $3K new).

So...it's either at least $8K-$10K for an LS6 before you've tackled any of the small issues of getting it to fit and run right.

If that's not expensive to you then maybe you can send some my way.

Oh crap, I mean't that they are expensive. Lol, I read the post which was above mine and he said they were expensive so I looked it up and a crate is like 6500-8500. Simple typo, don't bust my *****.

I don't think I've seen one educated post out of you the whole time you've been on the forum.
If you want a V8 RX-7, its called a C5, you can buy one now it comes with a warranty and everything.

If your asking this question your obviously not really up to the task of owning a car with a motor swap much less doing it yourself.

The Buick V8 is light and small, only 215 CI. Later Rover versions were bigger but still not a powerful motor. It would be a performance decrease.

The rotary is the reason to own the RX7, but anyways the Buick is going to be hard to find performance parts for. Go with a LS1 or LT1 (latter has more parts for it) You can always make a stroker cheaply with any normal Small Block Chevy. (non LS series)
