Here's a link to a FD buying guide (eg. what to look for, test drive, etc). Enjoy.

The cost is between 2500-3500 depending on how you get the parts and how much labor your willing to do. In all honesty why are you worried about the trans, at that milage you should be asking how much is it to rebuild the motor/turbos.

1. The owner doesn't know what they have or they just want to get rid of it asap
2. There are a ton of problems with the car and you'll end up spending double getting into the kind of shape it should be to be driven on public roads safely.

For buying info and what to look for, check out the link I posted above. For $6,500 I'd be very skeptical. Keep alert during the test drive and don't buy it without having a compression test done.

Look for any signs of small collisions as well. While repainting the FD, my shop found that the door was repaired poorly, possibly the 1/4 panel. Thank GOD these guys aren't lazy and decided to repair it the right way. I know its a small thing but looking for paint cracks can help determine that sort of thing. On the door that was repaired poorly, there were pretty bad paint cracks compared to the rest of the car and tadaaaa what do you think we found when it was sanded down? A huge layer of finely shaped bondo. I think the next time I get the chance, Im going to ask the body shop guy for some tips on how to find stuff like that and post it here. When he looked at the car, he almost immediately noticed that the door was repaired poorly just by touching the edge of the door.

sorry, i know some people are wondering besides me, so ill go ahead and ask, how old are you?
Other than that remember the saying "you get what you paid for" When buying a FD thats usually the case.
I wouldnt go for that FD at all. Theres a FD here in norcal thats a 5speed r1 going for 9k.
