thanks to all.....

Well, i was hoping that my girlfriend would be able to find some help in this section of your forums...As i was told be my friend who uses these forums frequently we would be given some go input into finding a good/ not run-down FD for her....and i guess everyone on here has more of a goal to make themselves feel bigger and better than some chick just looking for advice.....

i know she is new to the whole drifting thing and no...she would not be learning on that car...she would start out with mine then go to hers once she has the basics. now if you want to blame that god forsaken movie on her wanting to drift...well you can start looking for new reasons to condem her. she has never seen the movie, she has gone to at least 5 drifting events of mine, in my passenger seat the whole time and countless nights out with friends ******* around in lots and on roads. she has more general knowlege of nissans than most girls out there and i would take it as a compliment that she perferes your wonderful 2.0liter roteries to what i've shown her.

she came off wrong in some of the things she said which didnt help her case...its not just the look she likes....the sound, suspension and power were big things she wanted out of a stock car. and we came to either the FC or FD and she was instantly attracted to the FD(as any girl is right!).

As for you guys being "grown-up" adults i cant believe the words that were coming out of your mouth to her....as you could tell she is new to the forum idea and everyone, i mean everyone has made that post where they just wanted a direct answer and didnt know/want to hassle with searching. i thank the guys/girls who actually answered her question in a positive way.

and this is for those who wanted to know why i would say to get an FD....well, your right its expensive, but between the people i know and live with, the car will always be worked on correctly and for cheap or free, so thats not a huge concern.

as far as what she will be learning on....

and Nikolay(those of you washington folks know him) and Matt from Panic Mode(another washington well known drifter) will be teaching her once she gets the easy stuff down. so realize she isnt just some girl trying to be cool...she is doing this for herself because she likes it....

and im proud of her for it.

ROFL, You want to get an FD, a motor you've never worked on, and not only plan on giving it to an inexperienced driver to drift and daily drive, but you want to swap in a 20b? GOOD LUCK. I mean don't get me wrong, I daily my rx7, but I know that as soon as I start tracking it, I can't daily it anymore.

I'm not saying its impossible, but its improbable. Good luck to you and her, RESEARCH the car and UNDERSTAND it fully. You have some high expectations with VERY little knowledge.

EDIT: If you're serious about getting her a car to drift and daily, you may as well forget a 20b swap and go to a V8. That won't be nearly as much of a hassle to swap and will definetely be more suited to drifting, just my 2cents.

wishicoulddrift,

The point we've been trying to make is that the fd3s is NOT a drifting car. It can be drifted - but so can a Ferrari. They're not forgiving in this type of driving and were designed to be GT/circuit cars. You don't have someone *learn* on a 240 and then just grab an FD and go. You have them own their own moderate powered RWD car for a while, scare the hell out of themselves plenty, track it, etc. THEN move on to something like an FD while also tracking that after purchase.

So if you're detecting opposition it's because we do not want to see another naive driver pick up one of these (less than 10,000 still around) machines and trash another one.

Well said. I spent a year and a half searching for my car. Its insulting for someone to think they can just walk in and do it. And the only consolation I have is that I know that if you make the mistake and rush ahead, you'll end up paying for it, and you'll find NO sympathy from me.

This man sums it up right here. I look up to the FD as a dream car and everytime I see one drifting I am hurt as the less there are and the more they cost I may never get one. FDs aren't drift cars, they are luxurious spin offs of track cars for the rich to buy and have fun on a weekend. Not to go sliding around in. Reguardless if you trash it or not drifting we hate that risk. Also hopefully she won't body kit the car and gut the interrioir and all that jazz as that is another way of ruining a beautiful thing. I hate opening a tuning magazene and finding an FD inside with radical body and interrior mods. In my opinion just convince her and FC is better for her, and they're cheaper as well as many more around we can afford to lose. Just get a rear steer delete bar, tires, suspensions, and motor upgrades and toss a turbo FC like mine around.

I think it's cool that your girlfriend enjoys cars let alone drifitng!!!

When I bought my FD, I knew absolutely nothing about rotaries and nothing about how big of a money pit this car would end up being.

The FD was also my first car, which I learned how to drive manual on. If I would have came onto this site and asked whether I should buy one of these awsome cars the majority of responses would be negative!

After I owned the car for about 1 year I found this site, I too was flamed for asking certain things, but I quietly went about my business. I did so much research and spent alot of time reading through threads, I also came to appreciate who on the forumn was helpful, and I asked my questions via PM.

After making many decsions and thinking things through dozens of times over and over again,

I went from this:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...7/IMGP0563.jpg

To this:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...7/IMGP0846.jpg

How many poeple say these cars are not for drag racing? Many!! But there are a few FD owners that drag there cars and they produce great numbers. I rather enjoy 455.2whp @ 17psi, and not give a damn about what someone else has to say.

If your girl wants to buy the FD and drift in it, then I say "Go for it!"
Honestly, this is a good forumn with plenty of great info, you just need to ignore some poeples comments!

Good Luck!

I just read through the whole thread your girlfriend made, and we were actually nice to her compairing it with some others who just type the word "drift". She seems really calm about everything but she needs to realize we weren't being mean, the fact of the matter is that the FD is a bad drift cxar in both the fact of difficulty, AND repairs from drifting wear and tear. Just calmly daily driving an dFD breaks it, what about pushing it at the limit? I hope both you and her realize we aren't monsters, and we are looking out for the both of you, and yes we may throw in some hostility but that's because we don't like ot see these going sideways.

well, i never said anything about swapping one into her car...hahaha your retarded and just looking for something to bitch about. get over yourself sean. i dont need your sympathy or your approval...you just mad that she knows more racing theory than you could even ponder. she now just needs to put it to work. dont be insulted that a girl will have a car youve been dreaming of your whole life and finally got...be scared she will be better than you at drving it...

clayne...i understand your need/want to keep these cars on thier respected pedestal only for those who know what thier doing already. but the amount of seat time and track-time she will be exposed to in the car will negate the fact that she is learning. she knows he limits and abilities and she will be overly concious before losing it and overdoing it.

well, we have found a car.....

we found a black R1 model at my friends shop and we will be putting it together for her within the month. it will have coilovers and wheels on it by the time she gets it.....again sean...dont think i have no clue about what im doing....since you dont know me...dont assume. just for your piece of mind she will be on the track w/ this car by the time im in Japan in september. so when she doesnt crash it, i will post pictures of her controling the car sideways as so many of you said isnt easy.....

she will be one of the few people on here that will use her FD the way most of you wont ever think of using it. on the track. and be able to control it the way she wants opposed to letting the car dictate what she will do w/ it. so, im done posting on this thread unless someone else would like to tell me how i dont know what im doing w/ the car. she asked for facts and she got opinions. obviously this forum is only useful for those that think they are better than everyone new to thier community instead of being helpful. FC guys excluded, you rx-7 guys are as bad as supra owners when it comes to your egos....way to make a good name for yourselves.

well I guess you 2 are very stubborn and are going to go ahead with it anyway reguardless of our advice. Good luck with everything. I'm not doubting her, but the ability to drift an FD by the human race as a whole when I say:

If she crashes, don't be surprised.

Hopefully she wont and if she does hopefully she will be ok (the FD too but her first). I'm sorry if we came across as asses (well some FD guys can be sometimes) but we are just looking out for yo uguys. Best of luck.

Well, I do recall you mentioning the 20b swap, but whatever, I take that back then I understood it as you were swapping that in.

Coilovers and wheels? Man shes going to be mad drifter TYTE YO. You're a complete idiot, enjoy the car I can't wait until you ask the question, "Is my engine dead?". I guess you don't understand how hot the 13b can get running stock cooling. And how EASILY one dip in to high temps can kill your motor. Well, you have fun with that, I really do wish you luck because you're jumping into something you haven't even researched.

Oh and by the way there are MANY users that take their cars to the track. I plan on taking mine to autocrosses once I get it tuned you jackass. I don't think you understand the problems the RX7 has from the factory, but such is life, enjoy the car and good luck with it. I'd love to see the pictures of her drifting, maybe she can join Drift Pretty!

I wouldn't intend on the FD being a daily driver. I have a RSX for my DD and I can tell you there would be PLENTY of times when I wouldn't be able to make it to school or work if I only had the FD. Infact my clutch just burned up but is still driveable, that is until this morning when the engine started to smoke, have rough idle, and smelling like gas. Have yet to fix those problems. Oh and I have problems with my cooling system, and need a tune, and some turbo problems, and other problems with my idle, some various vacuum solenoid problems, brake problems, suspension bushing problems and some various rattles and squeaks.

I'm not knocking her ability to drive, my moms a racing instructor and could hand most people their *** here on the forums but I wouldn't count on the FD being a daily driver and going from a 240 to the FD seems like a big jump.... but we do we know, we just own the cars.

The 50/50 weight distribution is great, but the power band and the lack of torque in the motor is really killer. Its not impossible, but for a drift car, there are a MILLION better options, mainly for cost effeciency. I could have built a rb25 240 making more power reliably than what my FD cost me, but I wanted the FD style. I'm not a drifter, just plan on enjoying my car day in and day out every time I turn that key.

First off you are talkin like you and your girlfriend are married. You have some ***** spending an amount of money like this on someone u dont know will stick with you forever.
Second, its very disrespectfull coming into a forum that has members who have been in the rotary or fd3s scene before you have heard the term "Drift". I know im not one of these guys but at least i respect them and the doors that they have opened to help rotary owners.
Third, you said "as you could tell she is new to the forum idea and everyone, i mean everyone has made that post where they just wanted a direct answer and didnt know/want to hassle with searching".....i advise you to search and see how many times we members do this to every newbie. Girl or guy. Obviously you are the one who came in here looking for trouble or else you wouldn't have posted in here. Such as here "you just mad that she knows more racing theory than you could even ponder. she now just needs to put it to work. dont be insulted that a girl will have a car youve been dreaming of your whole life and finally got...be scared she will be better than you at drving it..."
Fourth, if you know so much about driftin then you should look and see how many FD's are used in professional driftin such as D1. Not too many. Look at the Falken FD3S. They put a SR20DET instead of keeping a 13B because (probably many other reasons but one is) it is not a forgiving engine.
Fifth, with your friend or "free" work that will be done on the FD I think you are gonna be up **** creek because most likely you will blow 3 engines before you realize you should spend the money and get it done right. (im not saying your friend isn't a bad mechanic, just that he probably isn't an expert at rotaries).
Sixth, a FC is cheaper to maintain and a better drift car which is why everyone is suggesting it. Also it isn't to different from the FD other than the looks. You can still have some decent power from a rotary (keeping the sound your gf likes). All in all a FC would be the choice of rotary power for drifting.
Seventh, We love these FD's and grow up seeing them as our dream cars. Not just another thing we must have are hands on right at this moment (like it seems your girlfriend is doing). Which is another reason why we dont like them being turned into drift cars. We could just say go ahead and get the FD so that once you or ure gf wrecks the FD the price of ours go up.
Eighth, "you rx-7 guys are as bad as supra owners when it comes to your egos....way to make a good name for yourselves.".....take that **** back to the Zilvia.net forums.
Ninth, no one (me included) is doubting the abilities of your gf and cars. We are just trying to help you and us out at the same time. But if all you have to say are rude and disrespectfull comments then stay off our forum.

P.S-I have much much much more to say about this thread but that would take forever
