Tan Suede Seats?

Lately I have been discontent with my car's seats. The car has been repainted the factory color (montego) and I have aftermarket wheels, so the car looks great on the outside. The engine has been rebuilt and I replaced a couple visual things like the underhood blanket, so that area looks great. It is just my seats now that are bothering me.

I have a 95 car so all the plastics are black except the plastic around the outer edge of the seat, which is tan. My carpets are tan and so are the seats. My driver's side seat just looks plain worn out and the passenger seat looks ok. The cushioning and lumbar support is heavily deteriorated and I felt it during a 5 hour drive yesterday. I like the way the R1 seats look and after riding in one I really like how they grip you. I cannot decide between picking up a set of used R1 seats and changing my carpet to black or recovering my tan seats in a suede/Alcantara material like the R1. My tan carpet is in excellent shape so I am really hesitant to pull it especially since I do not want to damage the dash removing it.

Anyone got any pictures of R1 seats in a tan carpet car or tan suede seats?

Here are some pics of my 93 touring with base model cloth seats. I personally like the tan look, but not the overwhelming tan it previously had. The black seats really helped with that. The floor mats are the Coco Mats in black/tan checkered pattern.

Big problem will be finding a good used set of R1 suede seats that aren't a fortune at this point.

May want to see if there are local shops that do auto upholstery that can make new covers for the seats - remove the tan leather, fix up the foam underneath, and sew and install new seat covers in whatever fabric or material.

There are also sites like leather seats.com (I think that's it) that sell new covers.

Also when I say "covers" it's actual new material for the seat, not some slip-on cover. You'll need hog ring pliers and hog rings to install. Tons of videos online.

BTW, your seats are probably in the top percentage quality-wise of tan leather seats out there. Most are totally trashed. May be worth getting a set that is rough but all there, getting them re-covered, and either saving or selling your original seats.

Not usually a fan of tan interiors on an FD but this actually looks really good. Those are the late spec cloth seats, surprised you found a set over there!

Thanks! Was looking into getting mine reupholstered and found these in excellent condition at a great price shipped. Couldn't pass it up. Definitely love the look and feel of these more than the leather.

Black R1 seats with a tan carpet will absolutely look good especially since your car is still montego blue. My car is not within my immediate vicinity otherwise I would provide some pics of my interior. I have what was a 94 montego with tan as well (black interior minus seats and carpet like yours) and a while back I repainted my car yellow but the tan seats looked terrible. And I mean just gross, ******* eye sore ugh... Anyway I was going to swap out the seats and the tan carpet but my mechanic suggested I just swap the seats and get black floor mats first. He was right I don't hate it anymore.

Looks great! I personally like the 94-95 tan interiors but hated the 93's. Your pics clearly show the 93 tan cars just needed a little more black to be awesome.

Awesome good to know. I found a set of R1 seats local to me, so I will be picking them up in a few weeks. I tried black floor mats with my tan seats once and hated it. We will see how I like this.

I honestly think some of the tan hate is just how bad the leather is. Like Dale said, my seats are in better condition than most and they still look bad. I do not even think the original black leather seats look good once they start to show a little age. I think it is just the cheap vinyl look of the era.

^^ Plus if you still hate it, then all you will need is a black carpet for a full conversion. So no harm done

Brilliant. A clean interior, plus an aesthetic touch really fixed the 'tan interior problem'. Just goes to show how important a clean FD is over preference of just having a specific exterior/interior. I'm likely going to do what Dale said eventually and get the seats reupholsters with new cushioning, change the left speaker vent to the appropriate color and get some new floor mats from SBG in black.
