switching from 98 to 94 octane!!! sideeffects?
so my car is a jdm rhd.... i was told that the previous owner only put 98octane which is found in japan.. unfortunately in canada the highest we can get is 94.... so my question is that what are some of the sideffets of switching from 98 to 94... is it really BAD..
what things i should look for?
should i put a power FC ...coz it will take care of the octane problem. coz the car came with knight SPORTS non seq ECU
or is there any way around
do i also need to change anything else?

I heard the same thing as you. If that is correct and your car was tuned for higher octane it is possible you could damage your engine when you get on it. A pfc and tune would fix the issue.
That is of course if they do have 98 octane in Japan like we both heard.

if the ECU is programmed for 98 octane then a lower octane could potentially destroy your engine. In fact, it probably will knock itself to death rather quickly on 94.
A PFC is a good idea but wouldn't be cheap. Look in the 3rd generation classifieds. One can be found there rather easily. Ebay, etc.. It's a plug-in "mod" and doesn't take but a few minutes to complete. The only problem with that is then you'd need to get the PFC tuned by someone that knows ROTARY ENGINES in your area. SO more money.
Nose around in the regional forums for someone local that could help you out.

95 RON is closest to 91 US octane,
98 RON is closest to 93 US octane
100 RON is closest to 94/95ish US octane

I am well aware that they are measured differently. north american gas is in RON+MON/2 and most of Europe, Asia, and of course Australia is in just plain RON. But the rule of thumb is that
95 RON is closest to 91 US octane,
98 RON is closest to 93 US octane
100 RON is closest to 94/95ish US octane
95 RON is closest to 91 US octane,
98 RON is closest to 93 US octane
100 RON is closest to 94/95ish US octane
With that being said I would suggest the OP look into a PFC and get it tuned for our environment and fuel with the options for modifications at a later date.

Prices vary for a pfc but a ball park would be 650-750 USD. You could find it cheaper if you found the right deal but that is an average range I would guess.
As JDK pointed out, it certainly would be safe, and allow you to make further mods down the road. Of course with more mods come more tuning.
