Sudden Tranny/Clutch problem.... Please help..

This weird and very annoying problem just started today. I was driving normally and came to a stop sign and put it in neutral, all of a sudden I can't get the car into first gear, or any other gear at all. I pushed hard but it still wouldn't go. This went on for several seconds and then I finally managed to get it into first gear, once I started driving it was fine again.

Later on in the day I went back home and parked the car for a few hours. Then had to go somewhere and then the same problem occured. This time I had to force it harder into the gears, but it sounded like it was grinding so I stopped. Then I turned the car off and put it in first, which was no problem and started it up and it started making this weird noise in first gear, almost like a wood pecking noise. This pissed me off and I must know what the problem is.

Any help is appreciated.

BTW, I have a 93 Rex, just hit 92k miles today, factory clutch replaced at around 50k miles and tranny fluid just changed 2 weeks ago using Redling Heavy shockproof.

Hope that helps.

-Dan

Well, my best guess would be a failng Master Clutch Cylinder, I am currently having the same problem. I am going to rebuild it in the next couple of days, so i guess ill let you know how that goes!

Hhmmmm.... I'll keep those in mind.... my friend says it's a good possibility that it's a "bearing screw" or something? Like if one side goes out then it's this that's causing the problem....

He says it's like a $80 part from Mazda........

Gotta get my car running again, now it's parked at home and driving my bro's car for now...............

Thanks everyone.

A good FD friend of mine says that it's a possibility that my throw out bearing is broken.

He also mentioned to check my brake fluild?? How does that effect my problem of having a hard time shifting?

The brake fluid reserve also feeds the hyd clutch system. I would rebuild the master cylinder and the slave cylinder first ,if that was not it then go on looking. the cylinders are not much to rebuild, and it sounds like your clutch is not disengaging . If the pressure plate was going out the clutch would also slip.

that happened to me 3 times, i though it was the throw out bearing but then it just kinda fixed itself and has not happened for about 8 months.

BTW: did the sound go away when you push the clutch in?
