Thumbs up Subaru STi boost gauge

Hey folks, I finished the install of my new boost gauge a little while back and thought I'd show it off. I searched for any past discussion on this gauge but couldn't find any, so in case you were wondering, this is what a Subaru WRX boost gauge looks like in an FD.

The down side is that it reads in MPa instead of PSI, but the conversion is 1MPa = 145 PSI, so .07 on the gauge puts me pretty close to the 10 PSI I need.

Here's a picture of it at night, sorry that the quality of the pic is a little poor. The one modification I had to do was to change the backlighting. The stock color is green, but thankfully it was just a rubber cover over the bulb. I bought a red cover from AutoMeter and that's all it took.

I'm pretty happy with the way the colors seemed to closely match the stock gauges. One downside is that the needle itself isn't lit up at night, so you can't really see it unless it's moving, and even then you're only catching it's profile as it passes each mark on the gauge face.

I bought mine off of Ebay for $75. They can be pretty pricey if you get one from a dealership (I think $175-$200!). It's a mechanical gauge, not sure of the face size, but it's more compact than most. The nice thing was that it comes with it's own rubber mounting pod.

I Tee'd it in with another gauge to compare and this thing seems to be spot-on accurate and very quick to react. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out overall.

What's everybody think? Thumbs up or down?

Thanks, man. I like having it on the column so that my gaze doesn't have to drift as far to read it like if it was on the A pillar. I didn't have to pay all that $$$ for the special column mounts that are out there either, plus it came with gauge and mount together.

I've watched them go on Ebay for $120-$150. I thought I caught a pretty sweet deal on mine for the money I gave for it.

The gauge itself looks pretty good, but the fact that the needle isn't lit at night would bother me.

Neat! Does the needle light up - doesn't look like it in the pic.

Is that actually from a Subaru as a stock part, or is it just an aftermarket gauge?

What year STi is that guage from? JDM model or US spec STi? More info please. Thanks.

It IS a genuine Subaru part. I think it's an available accessorie on any turbocharged model, including the STi. There's also a full gauge cluster available for the STi's (maybe regualr WRX as well), but mine is the single gauge pod setup. The needle does NOT light up, unfortunately. It's just painted bright orange. Mabye the one in the full cluster lights up, I've only seen them in pictures.

Attached is a picture I downloaded off the Subaru website. You can find it here:

Looks pretty good but why on earth did they use MPa for the units?
