Starting Problem

I let a guy get a jump from me but he had put his cables on backward. Now my car just cranks, without turning over. I checked the fuses and I not sure what else could be the problem. Fuel pump? Jacobs 1000 ignition, Coils? Maybe engine is flooded...how do i check that? I have no idea... PLEASE HELP

I AM LATE FOR WORK

when you put jumper cables on backwards the direction of the current will be reversed. electrical components will suffer damage like your diodes within your alternator,CD player, amps, even your clock. from what i understand something like this could lead to alot of components being fried, melted, basically screwed up. id check it out usin a volt meter to find out for sure...

if this leads up to a hefty repair bill id find that dude and make his *** pay for it because its his fault for not knowing how to match colors or + and - for that matter.

I would first try a different battery. It's possible yours shorted out. I've seen batteries which provide enough juice for lights and accessories, but cannot fire the car.

if you fried your ignition system then your screwed anyway. Do the simple stuff first - battery, connections, spark, flooded. If you have spark and the engine cranks but does not catch then try unflooding it. easy way - hold gas to the floor and crank. easy way doesn't work - remove plugs, dry out reinstall and crank.

BTW, if it is flooded; try the suggestion in this thread:

what do you mean by it just wont turn over - does it crank? If it doesnt then you got to fix that first before you unflood or check spark. If it does crank then you can check spark and de-flood. check spark by either using a tool like:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...&keyword=spark

or pull a plug wire and crank looking for a spark as you hold the metal part near a ground point - wear insulating gloves.
