Yes, the differential is tilted downward. This is why it looks "Low" to the ground.

Note: The mazda rear end is less than a inch wider than the Ford 8.8 rear end.

I guess if you are drag racing getting rid of an IRS system is best but Id rather go with Jim's conversion then what you're doing.

I have a question.
What is the difference between a "live axle" and a "solid axle"? Do they refer to the same thing?

Wow! Interesting swap! Ford definitely makes some strong rear-ends though..

Just a correction, it would be 4.10's (ford), not 4.11's (chevy)

forgive tbieblockhead...he comes from the shortbus forum called "other engine conversions" or some *****.

What effect will this conversion have on the handling of the vehicle? could you guys please elaborate? Ive not done anything with the rear of my car and would find the answer interesting.

thanks

Sound familiar? Hypocrites!

handling would be worse than irs, and if he has a drag spool in there it would pretty much be non-existant. but it's a shitload stronger than irs, helps the car go straighter down the track, and if the axle does happen to shear you don't drive yourself into the wall and kill yourself like you would w/ irs.

So... uh... anyways

Resource, can you go into more detail on how you are going to mount the axle to eliminate wind up? 4 point trailing with coil overs? Mayyyybe a panhard to reduce walking?

Just curious, and actually interested in what yer doin', not telling everyone how **** poor their fun lil' revver is!

Oh I am interested too. It would be a good alternative to Jim Labreck for those folks that dont care about autoxing or corner carving. t wont wind up because it is a solid rear so the "rebound" that occurs that causes wheel hop would not happen any more. The major advantages are strength of the rear, replacement part cost and the many rear end ratios available.

Please don`t get me wrong Resource, I`m interested in the mod as well. I just find it ironic that the rotards aren`t bashing you for doing it. Could just be that they aren`t back from junior high yet! Hehe.

tbie...you ignorant swamp rat....I lived in florida for years..had you finished sixth grade you would know there are some very good schools there...including the top art school on the east coast. my comments have nothing to do with your state. I did the search for you and that stuff came up. Im sorry that you didnt want anyone to know about your relationship with that turkey. you shouldnt have posted your pics on your website if it was a secret.

so...which one is your car TBIE...if i had to place a bet Id say its the bottom one...i mean you did do a full body swap too right? youve got great taste man...keep at it!

I think i still have some green and brown paint left over from my art school days...you could use it to touch up your camoflauge paint job!!

I dont like boston either...hahaha...screw the kennedys!! Perhaps one day you can visit another state...hazard county isnt one by the way.

enjoy that sweltering heat beeyotch...its gonna be around for another four months!

Hello again tbielobockie. Get bored now that the local F-body guys think you're cool so you had to come back here?

The fact that you have a bigger engine isn't going to win you any arguments. From that view point I could sit here & claim I have a bigger turbo, but that doesn't get us anywere. Who's car weighs less & which makes the most power? Even with that info on the table it's still just sitting on the table bench racing vs: actually putting power to the ground.

You like your engine swap, Good for you. Don't torture everybody else on the web that doesn't drive an LS1 powered vehicle! You've taken on a project & you are happy with the results. I took a different approach & am happy with the results, it runs good & put 3 car lengths on a 12 sec '03 Cobra. The wideband gets installed next month, & the EGT will go on at the same time (not that you care since it's not an LS1).

I offered info to you about my car before, & you didn't have any interest. Wouldn't you at least like to ride in a single turbo FD before you make all of your broad statements about how crappy rotaries are? Yet I'm the one that can't think out of the box...

You talk way too much crap (and you admitted to this on the local board after getting trained by everyone there). Just because this is a different board doesn't mean it makes your demeanor OK. I read about how you got walked by a sub 120MPH TA only 2 weeks after talking about how irresponsible street racing is. Nice double standard!

Your "built" LS1 is really just a cammed LS1 bolted to an auto tranny. Did Carroll Shelby ever choose an auto for any of his sports/race cars? Did he claim to build motors beyond what he really did? Not really sticking to your intended goal are you? BTW, Even the 427 Side oiler had it's share of reliability issues, hence the reason he wont build them to produce more then 425HP now.

I'm sure you have the ability to be a cool guy. How about giving the same respect to anybody else who does whatever the hell they want to do with their car instead of simply trying to stir up as much crap as you can?

Yeah that would be true but the thing is, unless you're planning on what 500+Hp with like 400lb/f of torque I doubt you would need a live axel vs irs but truly for dragracing live is better then irs but thats only for drag nothing else.

Do as you wish as I agree the stock IRS is a week link in the rx7 but Im thinking about going with jimlabs irs conversion. Good Luck to you.
