After last fridays mishap at the track I have decided to swap out the old IRS for a Ford 8.8 live axle rear end w/Moser 31 Spline Alloy Axles, 373 Gears and Heavy Duty Diff. Along with the 8.8 I will be going with a new coil over setup along with wildwood rotors and calipers. I know you didn't expect me to keep the old drums that come with the 8.8 did you Anyways I will start out with todays pics of the removal and damage of my "old" diff. I am picking up my new 8.8 tommorow and will give you fitment photographs then.

Only problem with that is you can't run in the street class for drag racing. And putting that solid rear is only going to help in drag racing. It will suck for handling. Thats why mustangs suck handling. It will, however, make your setup bullet proof.

I'm not going to be competing in any classes. Maybe Nopi when it comes around once a year but that's it. I'm mostly going to be just terrorizing the local tracks. Turns? I hate turns. It scares the bujeebies out of me to take a turn at anything over 5mph. I keep having flash-backs of slamming my old RX7 into a tree after goofing around. Anyways I want bulletproof.

I'm trying to decide which brakes to go with since I'll need to upgrade to get rid of the drums that will come with my 8.8 rear end. I'm thinking I'll go with something like this. It's the WILDWOOD rear axle drag big brake kit. It comes with Wilwood's four piston Dynalite II racing calipers with corrosion resistant stainless steel pistons,lightweight steel rotors, and high friction disc brake pads. This rear axle drag race kit is designed to reduce ETs by saving up to 35 lbs. of unsprung and rotating weight over stock drum or disc brakes.


Maybe? Maybe not? Still trying to research all my options.

Okay I won't be going with the Brake Kit I posted above. I've changed my mind. I'm going to peice together my own brate kit. This is what I'm leaning towards. WILDWOOD Dynalite II Calipers. Four 1.75" stainless pistons. Caliper weighs 2 1/2 lbs.



IMCA Steel Brake Hat . It weighs just 2 lbs and comes with a 3" off-set.

An option that you have is Aerospace Componets. They make killer brakes for the 8.8. I have them on my Mustang and they look good (all billet) and for the price they are a great deal. I paid a little over 400 for the rear set. I also have them on the front too. Never given me any problem on the street slowing down or at the track.

You'll have to let me know how things go. I found out you can run a solid rear in the street class. One thing you may want to consider is putting 411 gears in and not 373's......It won't move out of its own way with 373's in it. Also if ya could let me know what kind of susupension you go with. Sorry for the delay guys. I finally got a chance to take some test fitment pictures with my wheels bolted up to the Ford 8.8 Rear End.

Here is the right side. There is 3/4 inch from the tire to the outer fender. Not bad.
