Sputter at idle....

Ive been looking around the board about this topic and just wanted to get some feedback. Make sure nothing is totaly wrong.
I just bought an Rx7. Its a 94. Its a 5spd.
This is the 3rd day I have had it and I just noticed a high ruff idle and sputtering then it stalls. It rises then drops to 1k then keeps falling and stalls and sputters. Not all the time though. Thats only if I dont give it some gas. After it warms up it goes away but there is still sputtering. But it doesnt seem like it should be. I thought it might be fouled dirty spark plugs but I dont know. Not used to the rotor. Any help apprecated
Thanks.

Well they normally have a rough idle when they're cold, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. As far as this sputtering is concerned, does it sound like mild backfiring? Just like a pop from the exhaust?

If so, mine does the same thing, and the cat is good, muffler was just replaced, and the engine is brand new. So I'd say its normal.

Thanks for reply.
It does kinda sound like a little pop. Its got straight pipe all the way down. About the stalling? Is that ok. It idles high and if I dont give it ANY gas it will drop RPMS and stall. I just hope I didnt get ripped off. 54k miles for a 94 for 18k. It is an investment.
Thanks for the help.

Can someone take a picture of the idle screw? I always hear descriptions but I don't think I've ever seen a pic

You could always try adding some grounding straps to the car. I'm in the process of doing so and I hear great things about the improved idle.

What other mods does the car have? Whenever I hear about a straight through exhaust or anything similar from someone new, I cringe.

Seriously though, if you are not that familiar with the Rotary, you might want to consider taking the car to a specialist in your area b4 you start wasting time screwing around with different adjusting points and spending money on things like ground straps etc w/o knowing what the real issue is.

It is very difficult to analyze things like what you described without seeing it.

I dont even have plates on the damn thing yet and its giving me probs :P. I just wanna know if this could hurt the engine any? The rpms fluctuate from 3k to 500. thats after it warms up. But still I just took it around the neghborhood to see if it would give me bullshit. Every cold start you have to give it gas it just wont idle. Im going to take it to the shop but do you think there could be engine probs?
