I was wondering what people's opinions were on racing their sevens in solo II or any kind of race where handling is a major factor, sometimes prefered over hp. I figure a 20b is out of the question b/c of the extra weight and possible handling problems(?) What kind of Turbo should I use? any suggestions would be appreciated.
Before you do ANY mods to your FD take a look at the rule book. Changing (notice I didn't say upgrading) to a single turbo will throw you in a Mod class. If the class is competitive you'll have no chance unless your car is a pure race car.
FDs are one of the faster cars out there for Solo II, recently the C5 started winning in SS and also runs in ASP. If both drivers are good the C5 will be faster, but it'll take a good driver in the C5 to beat a well driven FD.
Take the car out and have some fun, R-compound tires are worth every penny if your going to run regularly. Kuhmos are cheaper than street tires (245/45/16 on stock wheels ~$130/ea) and will last longer than a street tire auto-xing.
HP doesn't matter much, especially when you see well driven Miatas being competitive with a FD.

I second turbojeff's opinions. In stock trim, FD's are one of like 7 cars in the Superstock class, which is the best of the best. I think if you want to be competitive, STAY IN THIS CLASS!!! It gets more and more difficult as you move up. I'm in A-prepared and am just fortunate that nobody else is in the class. As you get to Prepared and higher, it gets very difficult to be competitive in anything that you don't bring in on a trailer. Definitely stay away from A-mod, or you'll be competing against things like this beast (top pic)...

Autocrossing is a terrific way to learn precision in your car. I'd recommend it even if you come in last every time because it will teach you so much. The frustrating thing is that you can expect Civics and Miatas and CRX's to hand you your butt on a tray at every event if you look at raw times.....
But let them come to VIR and the tables would be turned!
