Transmission noises Do I need a rebuild?

I noticed a rattling noise today from my transmission when idling it goes away when I push in the clutch. Shifts are OK no driving noises.

Do I need a rebuild?

Is a rebuild hard to do?

How much for a rebuild or reman tranny?

Thanks

your having an output shaft bearing failure sounds like. I'm in the same boat. Rebuild time, $1500 from mazda, but I hear you can get a rebuild for a whole lot less, then just take it to a tranny shop to install. or DYI if you can.

I have a very similar situation. Try this: while at idle push in the clutch. If you hear the trans cycle down and come to a stop, suspect worn gears > a rebuild is probable. If noise stops as soon as you push in the clutch suspect a throw out bearing.

If you do a rebuild, do it all: gears, syncros, pilot bearing etc. $1200 is a fair price

Reman trans from Mazda is an option. About $2600 installed with a 1 year or 12K mile warranty.
