so is 110C too hot?

i track my FD, and after about 3-4 laps it starts to get hot. i short shift, hit 5th on the straightaways to cool it down.

So first is how close am i from poping my engine at 110? after i shut the engine off say after 5 min from the track it drops to high 90s because the fans cool it down.

i have a v mount but only a single oil cooler but a couple of oil coolers from an R that need to get installed. So a big AL radiator w/ water wetter in it. Vented hood. any other ideas to keep the baby cooler?

Damn. You're hitting 110C with a Vmount?
What were the ambient temps that day?
What run group were you in (Notice, Expert etc).
Are you sure you don't have air in the coolant system?

110 is too hot. The seals won't last long if you run it that high very much. Certainly don't let it exceed that. Dual oil coolers will help. I don't understand what you are saying about your radiator???

Running the fans full time should help some.

If you are hitting 110C with a v-mount, there is something wrong with the cooling system or fans.

Rynberg, nice to see another CA owner.

Ok, well perhaps it is my stupid A/C condenser that is still in there since i still have have my A/C in the car.

ambient was like 85F, intermediate / Advanced, running at the Fernley Track in Reno. it gets hot at thunderhill too but the laps are shorter and not as big of hill climbs

i have done most of this here, removed AST, run mostly water, etc..

Two questiosn, one i have heard that you should NOT remove the thermostat because it actually causes problems wth the water pump, too much volume i believe. Are we sure the hole drilling improves it without crossing the line?

secondly i was told you could jumper some wires and force the fans to come on high all the time. There is a relay passenger front i believe.

Thanks.

1. I've never had temp problems in 85F ambient weather (water temps would top out at 105-107C). This is with mods in sig (less effective than v-mount).

2. The only time I've had temp problems like yours was at Streets of Willows...on a 103F day.

3. The A/C condenser does slightly reduce cooling but that's not your problem. I would check the t-stat and fan relays.

4. What temp do you have set for your fans to turn on? (I assume the Wolf ECU can control this.)

5. You can force the fans to run on high by pulling the a/c relay and turning the a/c on.

6. You should definitely run dual oil coolers for tracking the car in the heat. My car could hit 250F oil temps on a 50F track day with a single cooler....

I agree with Tyler (rynberg), I think there's something wrong with your cooling system or the setup. With a properly setup V-mount, you shouldn't be seeing those temps, especially after only 3 or 4 laps; I'd think that 105C would be the absolute max, even at a track like Thunderhill (which I'm sure you've been on, being in Davis). And I don't feel that the AC heat exchanger creates enough of an airflow problem to cause this. While I'm sure that adding a second oil cooler will help bring the temps down, there's something else afoot here.

Are you sure that all gaps in and around the IC and radiator are completely sealed? Are you using a completely stock 93-95 front end?

i will double check fan operation, but i was under the assumption that speed the fans were not that big of deal. However i did see on a thread fdeeznut sent that i can wire it to turn them on manually to a medium speed.

i still have the stock front bumper. Wanted the 99 spec w/o the license plate holder. Rotary Extreme did make them.

i a also changing the thermastat.

IMHO, depending on the fans to maintain coolant temps while the car is running at speeds high enough to create adequate airflow is a bandaid for a fundamental flaw in the cooling system somewhere.

Once you determine what the problem is, you might want to try the "shark mouth" mod for your front end. Search for "N-Tech shark mouth" and you should find some pics of what I'm referring to.

I am confused, are you running a stock radiator in a v mount formation?
