Question SMIC with stock airbox?

I am looking for a smic that can be used with the factroy air box?? What is the largest smic that can be used with the facrory air box?? I am looking for something that i can use and keep the factory looking engine compartment as much as possible?? I know that pettit and a couple of other people make it but i never see pics with the factory air box?? i know that blitz made a smic that mounted the exact same with air going in the bottom and out the top but i dont know if that will support 400whp.....what about the ones that have it entering from the sides?? I hope that this makes sense...... I am planning on running the gt3574 turbo and making my own cold air intake using the factory air box..... Thank you for all your help in advance!!

I'm no expert but I assume you'll need something larger than the stock core size to get 400 whp. I had trouble breaking 300 whp with a SMIC that small, er, restrictive.

Stock airbox and battery if you want.

It's all about the ducting and airflow. I ended up extending the intake mouth of the stock duct. A larger duct would be the way to go, and maybe even a pull fan on the back. I say 400 can be met with proper duct work.

Not sure why that guy thinks SMIC means stock core size?? Much larger.

Blitz and SR are about the two which will fit with the stock airbox. I've heard you can get the Greddy to fit, but you'll need to figure something else out for the duct when using the Greddy.

Just check your charge temps when you move to a single to make sure you are getting ample cooling of your intake flow.

I was thinking he wanted the same size SMIC as stock. Forget what I said.

I have done the cheap bastard airbox mod and it does work great!! I am worried that the stock flat panel might become a restriction at higher hp levels but I will cross that bridge when I get there! Has anyone made 400hp with one of these smic like the blitz it the greddy??? Will the ic flow enough air?? Not worried about cooling effect that much as I will be using alky..... Thanks for all the info. And can we get a better pic of ur engine compartment??

Greddy Fits

I had no trouble fitting the Greddy SMIC.For ducting ,I used the factory nose piece and fabricated some thin aluminum sheet(Home Depot)into a full air duct.I have BNR turbos and
a Koyo rad under there. My airbox pulls cold air from under the car.

That's from Knightsports. Pretty much unobtainable, unless someone like Ramy gets lucky and finds one.

Sorry but why do you want to stick with the stock airbox? Or even with an SMIC? Is it really just to keep the engine bay looking factory? I know you said you wanted to modify the airbox later but is keeping that OEM look important to you?

400 is alot to shoot for man. I think the greddy would be your best bet but honestly, I think AI would be the best thing for you right now. Its going to have more of an effect than any SMIC you install right now.

Yes i do want to keep the engine compartment as stock looking as i can. I hate the way some of these engine compartments look all "cobbed" or "rigged" up. I would just use the factory intercooler but i have got to thing that it is going to be a bottle neck and not be able to flow enough air. This is the only reason that i am changing the intercooler is to gain air flow...... Thank you for all the input so far everyone!

Go AI. It will make the biggest difference out of any SMIC you install. if you are going aquamist, try to get one that is compatible with the summer module. Someone tell me I'm not crazy here.

$1,800!!!!

Greddy will do the job nicely for a fraction of that price.

Do the Greddy SMICs come with their own duct? Or does the OEM duct fit perfectly over it?

it does fit however just make some minor modifications to ensure it goes over the entire SMIC.
