SMIC advice

I'm just getting started on my car. I'll be putting a downpipe in soon, and I'd like to upgrade the intercooler. I'm not ready to take out the air box and go all out with a big v-mount or anything. (that will have to wait)

Can anyone tell me of a good upgrade for the tiny stock intercooler and piping that will fit in place without major modifcations to the air box, battery, ect?

I saw a picture of a blitz intercooler and piping that looked like it fit right in the stock location, but I haven't been able to find anything like it yet.

PFS won't work with the stock airbox. While I think it could be purchased separately it usually was sold with the PFS intake.

It will also work with many of the open intake kits and an M2/SR airbox.l

blitz smic is the best IMO for that size, or knight sports if you can find it as that has an even bigger core.

Anyone, have an answer to this?

I had a Blitz in my other FD. It fit in with no changes to the stock setup.

I spent $600 for the whole setup in 2004, not sure how much they go for if you find one now.

Depending on your budget you can also look at greddy and ebay (xs power).

The blitz smic has been discontinued for sometime now, I believe they were around $1100 new, we usually sell them for $700 to $800 used and we also polish them. I see one every 6 weeks or so.

Sorry for the threadjack, what's the difference between the 2 versions? .25 difference may be for fitment reasons or keeping the stock battery??

don't bother with SMIC. i've been running a custom (large, ducted) SMIC for quite some time now. it works fine, but i'm ready to go V-mount.

heat soak is always a problem when running stock mount.

if you really want to get an SMIC and keep the stock airbox, i would say try one of the ebay XS Power SMIC kits.

actually...it looks like you cannot use the stock airbox with the XS Power SMIC kit:

^^^in the pics they are using the stock elbow, have the battery in the stock location, but also are using a pettit/fighters-garage style intake (not an airbox)

here's my custom smic. same specs as the pettit cool charge III.

I'm not sure I would trust that thing. How can they sell it for cheap when everyone else wants $1K ?

Anybody ever tried it?

I did, i just want something new.

don't get me wrong, the "extra stuff" definitely took care of the heat soak - but not everyone is driving around with heat-shielding & e-fans on their smic's.

an smic can work great, if you put in the extra effort.
