Question Single Oil Cooler Efficiency?

To those of you without the R1 ( I assume the R1/2 had the dual oil coolers?), how well does your oil cooler cool?

I am a first gen owner, so pardon my ignorance on the subject. I have a friend of mine who is offering me a drivers side oil cooler for free. No leaks, and only a dime sized portion of flattened fins. No damage or leaks.

This will be a custom cooler set up obviously. I am sure the stock ducting is detrimental to the cooling efficiency. So does anyone have any "average day and driving" cooling numbers? The gauge I have for my first gen rarely exceeds 180*F, and that was on Road Atlanta on a 105* day.

Thanks guys!

I've heard many people say dual oil coolers don't do much unless its for track use. But if you're getting a good deal, hey why not!?

I'd say a single oil cooler with fins in good condition would be fine for street use with stockish power levels. If you take it to the track, you NEED dual oil coolers and depending on power levels, dual R1's might not be enough. Even, if you don't track, dual oil coolers are always better regardless.

If I am reading this correctly, you are thinking of installing this in a 1st gen? If so, dont bother. You would be far better off installing one from an FC. It would end up being much less work, less expensive, fit better and cool much better.

I assumed he was comparing it to his 1st gen but was asking for a 3rd gen.

Well a little bit of both, comparing it to the first gen. I know about doing a 2nd gen swap. Just wondering why Mazda didn't stick with the long bar type oil cooler. I assume it was packaging problems.
