Similarities of 2nd and 3rd Gen. Chassis

Hello everyone, My name is cemil and just signed up this forum. Anyway me and my buddies having a hard time to find some sports cars in our country because of political activities between '92 - '98. Like supra, rx-7, skyline, mr2 etc.

So i need to know something about rx-7. Is this possible that to put a 3rd gen. body on a 2nd gen. chassis??? If it is possible i can buy the parts from you and a renesis engine of course and build up my own rx-7..

I know it sounds like crazy, if you help me i will be grateful to you..

Thanx anyway

No, you could not put a 3rd gen body on a 2nd gen chassis.

Can you import cars that are newer than 1998? The 3rd gen RX-7 was built and sold in Japan from 1992-2002. There are a few people who import cars into the U.K. and Australia.

The MR2 (second body style: looks like a smaller Ferrari) was sold from 1991-1995, so you might be able to find those and upgrade them with newer parts.

Good luck,

Thanx scotty, actually i find two fd rx-7's but prices are very high one of the owners wants 40.000 USD and the other one which has a bad shape wants 25.000 USD. But the fc's are very cheap i can buy two fc when i sell my clio. Anyway i think im gonna start to make some savings for it =(...

I'm not sure how things are in your country, but most sellers here will let you test-drive the car before buying it. You should drive an FC and decide if you like it. They are very good cars for their price. Yes the FD is better but it might not be worth an extra $20,000 USD to you. Sometimes it's better to have a cheap car, because you can spend more money modifying it.

Welcome to the forum Cemil.

Like scotty says the FCs are pretty awesome cars too, especially with modifications and will be a huge step up from any bodystyle Renault Clio. What kind of import restrictions do you have over there?

better is in the eye of the beholder. stock? yes, modded? well lets say they both have almost the same potential but i would expect nothing less than a biased response on the third gen forum.

It is not the restrictions that we are afraid, there are so many burocracy in our customs =( so i dont thnk about import.. I have two options i can buy a mx-3 and spend 7 grands on modifications, or i can wait and make some savings then buy a FD.

PS: You have a great web site here, i wish i find it earlier. Thank you everybody..

Cars have been of unibody construction for several decades. You can't swap the bodies of any two disimilar cars because the body and the chassis are one and the same.

Touche' , sir. By introducing modifications into the picture, you're comparing apples to oranges unless you're doing the exact same mods to both cars. In that case, you've got to decide what defines a 'mod.' Is it money spent, or parts replaced? If it's money spent, the FC wins in a heartbeat. Parts are cheaper, because the market is larger.

If it's parts replaced, the FD wins. Say you have no budget, and want to build an FC and FD with identical horsepower, identical weight, identical tires and identical brakes. There are still even more variables you've got to consider, such as gearing, aerodynamics, and suspension geometry (assuming you want to race the car on a road course). There comes a point where the fundamental design of the car shines through, and it takes a ton of money and custom fabrication to improve beyond that point.

Karack, I meant no insult to the FC.
