Brake cleaner is pretty corrosive stuff and depending on the type will melt plastic. I used Simple Green on mine with a brush and they came out fine.

Don't use brake cleaner on plastic or painted surfaces that you want to stay painted. I'm guilty of this, but I don't use it where a more mild cleaner will do the job, i.e. fans.

Go with Simple Green, pretty cheap and leaves parts wet, or some electric motor cleaner( the kind that doesn't leave an oil residue) which is more expensive, but dries very quickly. Though I can't imagine getting the fans wet for a while will damage them.
